Correct. I'm surprised there are not more serious answers in this thread. If my company were to be hiring someone that would be my manager, I would damn well want to interview that person to get a feel who they are, what their level of technical competence is, and whether that person is right for the job.

Agreed, whenever I am in this position I look for two things:

1. Technical proficiency
2. Personality (i.e. how would the person be to work with)

I always tailor my questions around these two things and it has served me well so far.
