i'm pretty much convinced that a prescott 2.8 or 3.0e are the best upgrades for the socket 478 right now
i doubt anything else will be released for this socket

Did you had any problems OCing E with the Asus board. Do I need to have a rig watercooled even though I might not OC or its good to be on safe side.

I have it under an Alpha Pal right now, I ended up being pretty busy today, so I havn't messed with the chips today, but will swap it to the water cooled rig, and see what she does there, as soon as I have time.

OK I have the 3.0e under a Water Block now:
Idle at 1.525= 68f,or 20c
All my voltage lines are real good
Water temp at res= 48f
CPU is 250fsb or 3750

She may go further, but I will need to yank my pc4000 out of the other box to go too much higher, will try a few tests in a bit.
I will try a tad cooler water tomm as well, so far it appears to be stable tho.

Edit= I had to up the voltage to 1.525 to get it stable, I may be able to drop it a tad, but right now she stays there/ Water temp is now in the rez, 43to46f, and idle temp is 66to68f I doubt this particular cpu will go much farther, but a 750 OC isn't anything to sneeze at

Well you are comparing an $859 P4EE to a $252 A64, so I would hope so. Can you post a link that benchmarks these cpu's at that high overclocks?

Update;

CPU= 255fsb or 3825

Voltage= 1.55v core
+12v= 12.40
+5v= 5.16
3.3= 3.38
Idle temp= 68f

Water Temp in reservoir= 43f to 46f
Water is cooled by a Dehumidifier with the rad dropped in a plastic reservoir,( dehumid is controlled by a Digital controller and is set for a 3 degree variation in temp). Cooling setup is in 1 room down in my access space for a whirlpool tub motor/ The pump is a Supreme Mag Drive 250gph and the run of hose is about 16' in and out for a total of an approx. 32' total of water hose.(long run for non insulated setup, water lines run behind bathtub thru wall and into my computer area, to the pump, then out to cpu, then gpu, then NB and back to rez).


The chip will boot windows without erors at 1.525v but I can tell it wasn't stable, so I upped the voltage, and this is as high as I go with voltage. I'll run a few tests thruout the day and see if It's stable. Not the best chip in the world but it is running well.

All in a Home made Oak box with 6 120mm 110v fans,all on a rheostat,(4 on mobo side of case, 2 on drive side), along with a PCPower and Cooling 840 Redundant supply.
Thats about all the news I can give right now

Edit = *** I am pulling the chip, as at even 1.5375 I cannot keep the system stable with running 1 instance of d2ol...(@ 3750), However it ran stable at 1.55v, but I don't want that, oh well, I'll pop it in my cruncher box and run it at 220fsb. ***

I just got a 3.0E and it is hotter. I was like Woah! It's like 45c idle, and 65c full load. I've only overclocked to 3.3, gotta see what my ram will do..lol. So far I've ran Prime95 Torture test for 11 hours (While at work, and it's still running actually) and it's passed everything. Seems pretty stable so far! Anyway, with the short time (Got it yesturday)I've had it, In synthetic benches it is better than alot of the 3.0c scores I've looked at around the net. BTW it actually is rated to run hotter, it's threshold according to Intel is 89C! I might just keep it after all..lol.

I'll argue that a 2.8C or 3.0C is a better value then a 2.8E or 3.0E right now.
