Found out that she used the "N" word. Apparently she was on her personal phone. She was arguing with her husband. The argument got a little heated, and she said, "I'm not your -N-!". Well, some people heard it, escalated it up.

And we all just got an email saying that she is no longer with the company.

:(

Sucks, nice lady and as far as I know was always on the ball with her quality/performance stuff.

Damn. Was she black? I don't think anyone would've said anything if she was...

But if she wasn't, sucks to be her.

I don't think she should have gotten fired since she was talking to her husband. Reprimanded yes, but firing seems a bit much.

That's not as bad as telling the owners daughter to quote "Go fsck herself".

Oh wait...the girl that said that got fired too.

Which is stupid. I don't get why black people can call themselves "awesome people" in music and to eachother in life and think it's funny or okay or whatever. But when anyone else does it, it's some hugely offensive thing.

Is there a formal written policy on this in a handbook or something. Are there people who are black who found it offensive or something? Really though she should have been warned or something.

If I call you an ignortant fscktard, it's a lot different than calling myself an ignorant fscktard.

Good friend of mine was fighting with his wife on the phone. Got REALLY heated one time. He said, rather loudly, "Yeah, you're right! I fvcked up! I fvcked up when I married you!"

Our whole team was like uhhhh.....and we didn't know if we should say something, or start laughing our asses off.

Do you work in an at will state?

If not the company will likely have to fork over some money.

Well, the problem is that she said it within earshot of other workers. Regardless of who she was talking to, she's responsible for it. That's why sexual harassment can be charged by someone who wasn't even a part of the conversation (or action). Sexual harassment can be my taking sexual offense at something you said to someone else. The same thing applies for racial "discrimination" ...which this "apparently" falls under.

Not to me. I don't really care either way. :p

argh sucks ... I hate that we don't have offices either ... cubicles everywhere (even the CEO), so everyone can hear your convo. .... I guess it's a way to discourage any non-work related phone conversations ...

I do. But they're all (well, for the most part) INTELLIGENT instead of ... well, we'll leave that one alone for now. :)

Actually, yes. The lady that got fired sits/sat next to a black woman. She is as ghetto as they come too. She is a rather *large* woman, and wears things that my size 4/6 wife wouldn't wear. Low cut nastiness, REAL short skirts (no stockings). Just straight ghetto nasty with fvckin rolls hanging out and shyt. I find that offensive, but I'm not gonna try and get her fired over it.

Serious overreacting. Now if she said it during a company meeting that's one thing but a person overhearing and reporting that she used it in a private call (if they were within ear shot she should be reprimanded; if they were snooping it's not their business) and her getting fired over it is ridiculous.

Blacks use it frequently in rap songs and I've used it jokingly talking to people on MSN when I fake ebonics. It doesn't mean I'm a racist because I don't mean it in that context just as Blacks don't (generally) mean it in the degrading way either. "Who's ma awesome dude?! :)". Granted I'd never say it in public because of the hoopla it would likely cause but losing a job over this is a bit silly.

If that is what you want to infer from my statement, go right ahead.
