I think that was really an offhand comment one of the torpedomen made as he handed me the .45 during a submarine repel boarders drill.

For pierside defense against a crowd with only a shotgun, I was told to shoot the concrete pier immediately before the crowd, to spray concrete pieces at the crowd as a deterrent. But then they switched to the M-16 with two magazines in a web belt. The web material had shrunken over time and the magazines could not be pulled out of the pouch. We were supposed to count the rounds when we took the watch but could never remove the magazine to count them.

OK when I came in we were using Berettas. So obviously in that time the training changed a lot. In fact I am now prejudiced against Beretta cuz of the cheap hand-me-downs we had to use on security.

I actually know a cop who was forced to shoot and kill someone. I was the only person he talked to about it because even though he knows he killed many as a door gunner on a helicopter in battle he had never killed someone face to face.

He told me the police academy taught him to shoot no less than three times and aim low on the torso as you will naturally rise with multiple shots.

He was not more than 25 feet from the suspect who was coming off the porch of his house. Out of the three shots he only hit the guy once. Luckily for him it hit in the right spot and the guy died immediately.

we used 60 year old pistols in the danish army:colbert:

granted, these were SIG p210's so they were stupidly reliable and accurate despite their age.

Aim low, from the feet through centre mass up to the head until the clip is empty.
wut

First time I've heard that. Center mass and center mass/head (failure drill) is what we did.

If you're going to make the guy look like swish cheese, isin't it more effective to just shoot him in the head and only need one bullet? Seems kinda wasteful to use up all those bullets if you're practically going to kill the guy anyway. Guess if the guy does not die right at the scene there's probably less paperwork to do, but it still guarantees he'll die sooner or later, which saves having to go through a long trial, so I guess I can see why.

I bet the average accuracy in officer involved shootings would go up if they would stop letting fatties and manlets on the police force.

Theres way too many people pushing head shots.
In real life when you're adrenaline is pumping and a guy is moving around it is MONUMENTALLY difficult to nail someone in the head.
I think video games are screwing up our perception of reality.

Theres a damn good reason why real life instructors teach center mass.

Dammit, I noscoped 3 guys today in MW3. Clearly it's possible, and it should be taught.

Hey T_Tomato, weren't you the guy claiming he was mature? Trying showing it sometime.

I put him on Ignore. The guy insulted me one too many times and constantly posts stupidity.

I always figured they used all their rounds as they could face a budget cuts if they didn't use up all the extra funds they don't need for ammo.

In response to OP's post. That's not how I was taught here in America... I was taught "2 to the chest, 1 to the head"

IIRC, it's 2 in the pink, 1 in the stink......maybe I'm thinking of something else.:hmm:

This is why specialized shooters (i.e.-special forces) do double and triple tap. By the time you finish your third "tap", it's usually up around the head or neck, due to the recoil.

The M-16 was originally offered in full auto version, but the Army switched it to 3-round burst, because (a) too much ammo was being wasted, and (b) three rounds will stitch the body and head with lethality, quite nicely. :hmm:

The reason for this is pistols are very hard to shoot accurately in the best of conditions even with training. In a real firefight the accuracy drops even more therefore it is just better to empty the magazine as bullets are cheap compared to the value of a police officer.

$15 or so of bullets wasted vs hundreds of thousands of dollars wasted on a dead police officer, that makes for an easy decision.

Most cops will never shoot their guns at a person during their careers so it's sort of understandable that marksmanship isn't their highest training priority.
