So this is what the owners kid did today ...

So the owners kid came up here with a trashbag full of his old laptop.

Backstory : He was mad at it locking up, so he ran it over with a Caterpillar D9N :

This is the aftermath :

We have a dell tech coming out to fix another laptop, so we thought we'd set that up as a joke, and have him try to fix it, haha.

Gotta love Dell's CompleteCare warranty

Oh completecare. How I love thee.

edit: D-series. Looks like a 610/620 maybe? You'll be upgraded to a nice E-5 series. 🙂

lol nice. take pics of tech while youre at it 🙂

We get a few obliterated laptops in, this one isn't THAT bad. We've had ones that are pretty much dust, and they'll send it in a trashbag, haha.

Our techs beat up hardware pretty good, but the laptops are in some pretty "intense" environments.

I ran over a motherboard with a leopard tank a few years ago. It inflicted surprisingly little damage because the weight is so spread out.

Accidental Damage and Theft Protection Services 🙄
Damage caused by intentional acts, fire, theft or loss, is not covered under CompleteCare Accidental Damage Service1.
Some examples of damage that would NOT be covered are:

Cause of Failure---------------------------------------------------Resolution Description
shad.gif

Damaged in a fire----------------------------------------------------
Not covered — insurance coverage
Intentional damage
(hammer marks)---------------------Not covered — user responsible
Normal wear (does not affect system performance)----Not covered
Consumables (batteries, bulbs)
--------------------------------Not covered

If the kid deliberately ran it over then it's not accidental damage. Claiming it as such is fraud.

However, fraud seems to be cool on ATOT lately.

I used to repair Dell laptops. Their completecare used to cover ANY damage. I saw a laptop that had two weeks left on the completecare warranty. The laptop looked like the person slammed it into a big pointy rock literally punching the rock through the base plastic, through the motherboard, through the keyboard and into the LCD then putting it into a pond or lake (it was filled with crap besides water).

The tech just built a brand new machine from new parts and that was what the customer got. The old machine just went into bags and most likely wound up in the trash (outside of the LCD going into a bio-hazard bag).

Doesn't anyone read anymore? They aren't trying to get Dell to replace it. Dell is coming to fix a DIFFERENT system, and they were going to point the tech to that one first as a JOKE.

Others are mentioning complete care, did you read the rest of your responses?

Bingo.

In the end we tossed it in the trash, it was about a year or two out of the 3 year completecare warranty.

So did they replace it? What did the tech say when you showed it to him?

It was a new kid, he just laughed and asked where the right one was.

Hahaha, we plugged in the ethernet cord.

First and only time ANYONE has ever, purposely run over a laptop, and it was the owners kid. By kid, I mean he was 29...older then me, but when he destroys property like that, he's a kid to me. He works here, officially has for the past few years, he'll eventually take over his dads role as owner, after he bounces around a few more years at all the low end positions/jobs.

Pfft look how cheaply made it is! 😛
Thinkpad T-series FTW!!

I have some awesome pictures of someone who ran theirs over with a big ol tractor too. He left it on while he was running an hour long diagnostic on the engine...woops! That happens about once every 4-5 months. They fall apart, and don't have any type of completecare like Dell offers. IMO, Dell's completecare warranty is worth every penny.

I was thinking the same thing. Not nearly enough pieces. lol

It was in a shitload of pieces, we just propped it all together nicely, to look like a laptop.
