So this is what happens years later after breaking your ankle and not getting it looked at

Bone spurs, extremely painful.

A few years agao i had gone rappelling and misjudged the distance I had left before impact. I came down rather hard on my left foot, with my knee pretty rigid. I heard something pop, and it creaked a little when I flexed my foot. I thought I had just jammed my ankle, wrong answer. Fast foprward to Monday:

2 days ago, on Monday morning, I woke up and just about screamed like a Nancy boy when I put my weight on my foot as I stepped out of bed. I hit the floor, white as a ghost. I used a makeshift cane to get to the bathroom, do the morning ritual and off to work, only to leave about 4 hours later in so much pain I had to literally use my desk chair as a wheel chair. I got home, and crawled on my hands and knees from my truck to inside my house, down the hall, and into the bedroom. After 4 hours of alternating Ice and moist heat, it felt better and the swelling had reduced from a grapefruit to a small orange. Last I left work again early, same deal.

Today I go to the Dr. have x-rays done, and they show the healed fracture, as well as bone spurs, and other calcium deposits in between my bones. Now I have another appointment with an orthopedist on Wednesday of next week. I had already spoken with him years ago regarding some heel pain before all this, and he mentioned surgery if I ever did develope spurs because they can cause me to walk funny and thus cause arthritis.

Why is my life never easy? Why do I have to have all the crazy crap?

Good idea not to go to the doc after that. Crippling pain is rarely an indicator that something's wrong.

I had a friend of mine cut his foot pretty badly with a chainsaw (it was an accident). Anyway, he didn't go to the doctor for 2 days. His foot started to show signs of infection though so he went and got it stiched up. He could have easily lost his foot or possibly his leg if he waited any longer.

I don't know why people don't go see the doctor in these situations. Lack of good judgement I guess.

I nailed my ankle on a wall as i was running through a hall....... It happened about 2 weeks ago, there's still a bruise on the side of my foot, but it doesnt even hurt (now) except when pressure from an outside source is put on it. I dont think I broke it, because I can walk fine, and even got up and walked around without a limp when it first happened... Man that'd be a bitch if what you got going on happens to me.....

Don't see doctors. They're all evil bastards who just want to make money, and don't give a crap about the patients that they're getting it from. If only the medical world was ruled by nurses...

Crap! Are you serious?! I ripped the tendons in my leg a few months ago, it was so bad that I had to use crutches that were laying around for half a week. Eventually it healed itself.................................however, sometimes when I go running, the opposite foot starts to feel like it weighs a 1000 pounds and I have to drag it along while running like you would a weight and then eventually stop running......

When the original injury happened about 6-7 years ago, It never really hurt, just popped and creaked a bit. But monday morning I called as soon as I could see straight, and got in to see the doc today. Damn crutches were 130.00

Can't you rent them free at most Krogers. I know I used to. Put down a $25 deposit, and you get it back when you return them...

So, is this your official introduction to middle age?

If so, welcome. We take all kinds.

Yeah, I am 36 years old. Instead of a young blonde and a red corvette, I get bone spurs and crutches. :D

Some people don't have insurance.

A couple years ago I broke my pinky wrestling with my friend (probably a bad idea, he's strong as an ox) I thought it was just badly sprang(ed?) the next morning and I didn't have any insurance at the time so I said 'fvck it'. The joint healed together and it looks kind of deformed now...at least it was just my pinky finger though, doesn't effect my ability to do anything.

I thought that was the greek cure.

The ATOT cure, I thought, is to turn an air can upside down and freeze it.

LOL.

You should just walk it off. Oh wait, you tried that and just resulted in more unbearable pain? Odd.

You sound like my dad, next thing you will be saying is:

"You will never know it a year from now." or "It builds character"

Several years back I broke my left knee and let it heal on it's own.

Most times it's OK, but every once in awhile...

Major Pain!!

BTW: I tried Windex, to no avail. :(
