supposedly (low sample size) throwing small rocks <1-2 cm in diameter near them is good for getting them to go away, but throwing big rocks at them is a bad idea 😀.
there were some skunks that liked visiting our campsite, and one of the profs would throw small rocks near them to scare them away from the food.

the neighboring campers tried to throw a big rock at one and it sprayed something i think 😛, wasn't there to see it unfortunately

a skunk by my house got it's tail or foot (can't remember) stuck in a plastic mouse trap and got stuck in my fence D: it was making clanking sounds, so i removed the trap.

also, fyi I don't remember where i heard it from, but skunks won't spray if they can't raise their tail 😛

Lucky. I've never seem a live wild skunk. I occasionally see/smell them in the road, but I'd love to see a live one.

I've never seen/smelled one in my life, but here there are lots of individuals of 2 species of similar but not smelly mustelids.

The skunk won't bother you unless it feels that it has to. Generally, they'll just scamper off. I see them fairly often. At one of the camps we go to, there's a small family of skunks that make the rounds every night, looking for garbage of new campers who don't know better to keep it out of reach. We still laugh our asses off about the time my wife was more or less passed out on a picnic bench, and saying, "here kitty kitty," trying to pet a huge skunk that was underneath the bench eating some sort of scrap.
