I go to wegmans once a month or so for "premium" stuff. Aside from them and aldi, I don't really go anywhere else. I used to get pretty good stuff at biglots, but since the pandemic, they don't get much interesting food anymore.

edit:
on the subject of canned fish, these are tits. Got them from amazon(lunch today)...

Dumb, not poor. Poor people who aren't dumb can figure out cost per unit, they don't buy from dollar stores.
That's not true. You just have to pay attention to what you buy. Some things are a good deal, and some aren't. I've never overpaid for anything I got from a dollar store.

I don't shop at those places or Walmart. If they can't provide a decent job for people, with medical benefits they can fuck right off.
Out at Ocean Shores the Dollar General is taking a run at the only grocery store. It's a lose-lose proposition but people don't see it coming until they are stuck fucked over with one mediocre store that can now raise prices with impunity.
That's the Walmart model.
Most local grocery stores don't offer benefits either. Some Safeway and Kroger stores have unions and benefits but not all and not for all employees at the stores that do.

I'm a union guy and I shop at Union stores every chance I get. You know that many states attorney general had to sue Walmart to get them to pay for medical benefits? They are there own rolling welfare state. I can't begin to express how pissed off I am about the money they pocket and fuck over their employees.
You know that Red Wing boots are a union shop?
I pay good money up front for those shoes. And they will fix them forever. I have to pay for re soling, but if I keep the uppers well oiled they will restitch and replace eyelets forever more.

The vast majority of Redwing's products are made overseas now. Only their Heritage line is still US made.

I'm aware of that. I'm talking about the sales staff. The local repair shop guys.

No, poor, they may only have a few dollars available to buy stuff, and may not have the luxury of shopping at multiple stores or spending an extra dollar or two to get a better cost per unit.
That would depend on the logistics. Maybe true in some areas, not true in others.

In the suburbs I'm in, where there's a Dollar store...there's some grocery store nearby on the same bus route or even in the same shopping center. Or the Dollar store is an area that isn't that depressed economically(i.e same building right across from the Micro Center and the Aldi is about a half mile away)

If anything, in such a situation...the effect is that the junk food the dollar store sells is at a lower price than the same or substantially similar junk food in the grocery store next door.

yeah, like buying 1 roll of toilet paper vs buying a 4roll pack which is only 2.5x the price of 1 roll.

Paper products sold by the single roll should be illegal outside of gas stations.

Idk.... single-roll SCOTTS original TP specifically (wrapped in paper) are not terrible for a guy living alone .... one roll of that stuff lasts me 1.5 to 2 WEEKS.

To be fair I usually buy the biggest multi-pack I can get my hands on personally! ;)

Think of the minimalists!

I have a friend (on a fixed income), he always seems to buy singular rolls of TP for some reason. Yes, he's always running out. But the store is just down the street (pharmacy), and more is always available. (Because, likely, smarter people don't buy single rolls, as you indicate.)

He can't stand to have "bulk stuff" taking up his living space(s).

I can't say I agree with him. I'm the opposite. I buy in bulk, large qty packages, and keep them around. My apt., looks like a warehouse, but at least I've always got plenty of TP in stock! Yes, I have a higher income, and I can more afford to buy in bulk. (But it's not like he couldn't. He just doesn't see the bigger picture / savings longer-term.)

Also many older folks like to actually do IRL "things" like go to the store and interact (!!!) with people !!!

Makes no freaking sense to me at all! ;)

I buy single rolls of toiletpaper cause they aren't wrapped in plastic bullshit. I can either use or recycle 100% of a single roll, and I pay less to do so. Wrapping four or more in a package doesn't necessitate a lower price ;^)

However what it DOES do is extend the time between those pesky "IRL interactions" quite a bit! ;)

(also Scotts multipacks ARE significantly cheaper per roll and that's all I buy)

Amazon sells a 32 roll pack of Scotts for $1/roll. I can get singles for just a bit more than that locally, and I got my last shit ton from amazon during the pandemic for about the same price(still have some). Still no plastic bullshit, and I'll pay a premium for that. Pandemic's over. They don't limit you to a single roll anymore. You can buy as many as you want ;^)

The TP I buy is $0.88 per roll in a multipack of 24 (with 312 sheets per roll)
