1. The screen said a giant amount in the millions and the receipt said something like $2.25 payout
2. The amount that the screen displayed was well above the max payout for the machine ($6500 IIRC)
3. There is supposedly a clear disclaimer on the machine which states "Malfunctions void all pays and plays."

1+2 appear to support 3.

There are other slot machine malfunction cases that appear way more BS than this one. FFS chick was playing PENNY SLOTS, did she really thing she was going to take home 43 mil from that?

Hmm.

That does change things a bit, a penny slot machine with a max payout would limit it.

I'd give her the $6500 at least and send her on her way in that case.

Would be a drop in the bucket for a casino I imagine.

Still, if it read out that far above max something was wrong.

Agreed on all counts. Besides, the $6500 max payout would be far less than the cost of a legal team and bad press resulting in fewer players.
Heck, get some positive press by giving the payout and you might gain some more players and make it back in less than a day, easy.

Seems like some people just enjoy screwing people with a hard "NO" and will take losses in order to do so. A little sociopathic...

It's like rooting for Trump to win and instead of a million bucks you win $6500K and a kick in the ass

Why do you need a team? Seems like a single lawyer with the screenshot of the machine, printout of the receipt, and photos of the stickers (malfunction voids all pays + max payout of $6500) should suffice.

I would take $6500K and a kick in the ass over 1 million dollars ($1000K) any day. ;)

(Edit: although not over Trump)

Depending on the state's gaming laws, the casino may not be allowed to pay out a jackpot contrary to their written rules. On the other hand, they could just give her the maximum payout and call it a gift.

Would be good advertising on the casinos side.

This is why I don't play slots. Glitch in house favor, house wins, glitch in your favor, house wins.

The only thing I find fucked up is that they can claim malfunction when it pays out big but who is to say that machine, or others, weren't malfunctioning and not properly paying out? Both ways the casino gets to keep the money and that's just messed up on some level.

Not saying they should have to pay out 40+ million especially if the max the machine will pay is $6,500, I figured it was some progressive jackpot that she hit.

What we need is a government body that monitors these machines and can enforce rules and regulations...

Although the machine's screen displayed the multimillion-dollar jackpot, the printed ticket showed $2.25.

That right there kind of tells you that at least something was not right, it didn't match the money on the screen.

Bookman, who said she was recently laid off from her housekeeping job at a local hospital, said she plans to sue the casino.

She gets laid off and decides to go spend money at the casino. Sounds like a true winner here.

It's an obvious malfunction and this is standard casino practice. They could at least given her a bunch of free play money, which they would probably recoup anyway.
And yea, I'm not getting the hard luck nonsense. She's blowing money at the casino period. Nuf said.

I can't fault her for blowing a few bucks at the casino after getting laid off. Not the smartest move, but I doubt she was churning through all of her money on a penny slot. Some people gamble for some hope!

Regardless, she shouldn't get shit. There was clearly some kind of problem with the machine. At most, I would give her back whatever she put into that specific machine, just to shut her up. Giving her $6500 would be ludicrous.

It would be nice if the casino had a little more decency. While they clearly don't owe her $42 million legally or ethically, they should at least own up to the fact that seeing such a huge payout is an incredible heart attack moment and that their fuckup caused her a lot of grief. They should have paid her more than a comped steak dinner.

But ultimately, why would they? If you walk into a casino to play you are by definition stupid, weak and easily fooled. They don't need to pay her squat because she's going to be back to her nickle slots and lottery scratch-offs tomorrow. That's who she is, that's why she was there and she's going to keep playing no matter what. The bad press won't cost them any customers, so there's no incentive for them to do anything else.

Note to the fuckwit who got laid off and decided to give her money to a casino: Use this as an opportunity to grow a brain. Stay the fuck out of casinos entirely and set up a few interviews instead.

Well the machine was malfunctioning, if it's in the casino's benefit the player doesn't know and the casino wins. If it's in the players benefit the casino has it checked out and the casino still wins. Don't get me wrong, I'm in the camp of you are retarded to go to a casino because they always win but there should be some level of fairness when shit is broken. I don't see them trying to give money back to anyone that their broken machine took, even if it is just pennies.
