actually "jigga" is the proper way to pronounce it, you'll find a lot of math majors pronounce it like that

Actually, I believe either pronunciation is correct.

i guess you're right, i was mainly pointing out that just because some one calls it "jigga" doesn't mean they are wrong

but anyway thats not the main focus of the thread

moving along...

you reply with something like "oh you just have to take the old one out and put the new one in, make sure the jumpers are right, and the machine should recognize it"

then they are pissed that you charge 30 bucks

time and time again i want to tell them that if they think it so easy they are welcome to go home and do it themselves (i'd do it with a smile too)

Just remind them that they're not paying $30 just for the service, but for the knowledge/education, too. Personally, I hated it because no amount of money made the frustration worth it. Nothing like some idiot who just had to know every little thing you were doing. It's like trying to teach a fscking rock how to build a computer. Fsck off.

Doesn't sound too bad to me. How about you help him instead of making fun of him.

I did help him. I didn't make fun of him, at least not to his face. I came here to do that.

The transfusion of data from his old 166mhz Gateway to his new Dell is taking place as I type.

Oh, it's time to change the I.V. the transfusion's a little bigger than I thought!

BTW, $xx.xx was $50, not a porno movie :D!

I did have a lady call up and ask my how to shut down her win 98 machine

Not unusual, there's a shut-down flaw in Win98 - and a fix for it.
They'll sit and churn for hours sometimes until you force them down or load the fix.

no she didn't know enough to click start>shut down>then select shutdown and hit ok

Can't really blame her. START is a weird place to go when you want to END your computing session.

What were you transferring? Just docs or did you clone the system? I assume the old system's OS is extremely outdated. Is it worth putting it on the brand new computer?

Usually these people talk to some retard who thinks he knows everything about computers because he read some magazine and spouts off a bunch of incorrect terms. Then the normal person believes them and remembers the terms so they can use them down the road to relay their problems.

HAHAHAHHAHA transfusion...I LOVE when people try to sound technical....this guy I knew, not a bad guy, was friends wtih a lawyer I was working for. THe lawyer had done some free work for this guy, and the guy was giving the lawyer a free computer and monitor.

So the guy brings in the CPU and puts it next to the desk to be hooked up later. The lawyer comes in later, and asks why the new comptuer isn't hooked up yet...the guy looks at me with a look like 'check out this guy...he has no clue what he's talking about'.....and then proceeds to tell the lawyer 'this isn't the computer man...the cpu's downstairs...this is just the case and ram.....the cpu's downstairs'. He then proceeds to bring up the monitor from his car. He says 'this is what makes it run'. I shut my brain off until I could make it to the bathroom and laugh like a hyena.

he probably thought u would put an injection to the old computer to "transfuse" it to the new one,
then u would put a bandage and say all done.
