RIP Sgt. Adam Parrish
You were truly one who turned his life around into something great, just to have it ended needlessly.
Would you care to tell us about your friend?
I, too, lost some friends in a war a long, long time ago and far far away.
When I first met Adam, he was your typical bad kid. It was my Freshman year of high school, his senior year, I was good friends with his brother, and consequently hung out around Adam alot. He did drugs, smashed mailboxes, robbed houses for beer money, wore gothic style clothing, anything bad he did. No one thought that he was going to make it in life. We never thought he would obtain the discipline necessary to succeed.
Three years ago, Adam decided to get his life in shape, and join the Army. He went through Boot Camp, and became an MP. He had completely changed. He had a work ethic, he was courteous, and most of all, he was fun to hang around for once. So, he was stationed at Ft. Campbell up in Clarksville/Kentucky border, and he would come in on the weekends and hang out. We got to be pretty good friends, and had good times together hitting the clubs in downtown Nashville.
He shipped out back in May, his tour was supposed to end in October...but I guess it ended a little earlier than that. I just got a letter from him last Friday talking about how excited he was that he was coming home soon. He told many humorous stories that went on, and it seemed like he was having a vacation. Some vacation.
He was a bad kid who turned his life around and became someone. I only wish he could have gone on to accomplish greater things in life.
