So they jacked my car...but i got it back!!! But now....Ignition Switch/Tumbler needs replacing?

Ok, to continue the saga of my stolen car from OT (wtf did AT open a Garage forum...man i've been outta it!)

My car was stolen, and i just recovered it this morning after paying $400 from the Towing Company (hooray :-(

The car turned on, initially by putting the tip of my key in & turning it. I took it to 1 guy, who said i just needed the Ignition switch, for $120, then took it to another guy that wanted to charge me $336 for the ignition switch, then a 3rd guy wants to charge me $400 for the Ignition Switch & Tumbler.

My question is...a) What risk do i have not doing this (my car currently turns on/off fine), and b) who was hustling me

car is a kinda beat up 1997 Honda Civic EX 2 Door....so that's why i'm so hesitatnt. I just spent $400, so another $400 would REALLLLLY hurt.

spend the money on a decent alarm. or get full coverage. 🙂 either way.. its not worth losing a perfectly good vehicle.
 
The only thing i could see happening is it might not start one day, which would suck. but someone may know something else that might happen.
 
Pick up a used ignitiion switch from honda-tech or from a junkyard.. i've swapped it in that model honda and its quite easy. You can get the breakaway bolts at the dealership. Just make sure they didn't mess up the steering wheel as well.
 
yeah, i thought about that. i'm just kinda in the hole right now after forking over the $400 towing. I bought a new rear view mirror, and the CLUB 🙂 hopefully it helps.

My line of thinking is, if they're gonna steal it again, no point in me buying a new switch. but we'll see. God bless AAA in case anything does happen 🙂
