That mantis gets the Ugly award for most bodily-exposed ugliness in the field of ugly.

Cool though, and nice photography skills.

I thought the brown ones were male, and the green were female... but... this one looks like a hermaphrodite.

i would love to have a pet mantis, it would pwn the roaches in my house, but i dont like the idea of waking up in the middle of the night with it standing on my stomach staring at me while i sleep and/or hurting me

I wouldn't mind having a house with 4 or 5 praying mantis's if it meant they would be pwning ugly spiders all day.

I've seen a mantis chow down on a grasshopper, definitely dinner with style.

Thanks guys. :)

I noticed that as I got closer with the camera, it LOOKED at me...it freaked me out. Insects scare me...mostly b/c I'm allergic to all insect bites and stings.

I know the Mantis has no poison, but I'm scared nonetheless. I'd rather lay my bike down at 60mph than face bugs.

You're gonna laugh at my camera. Sony DSC-S50. 2.1 megapixels. The image was taken at 1600x1200. :)

it sports the carl zeiss lens :)

Yes, it does. :) I got lucky with this pic, I guess...I didn't do anything special. Macro mode, zoomed all the way out, flash on. That's it. If I would've had it on the tripod it would've been even sharper. :)

Heh, it really freaked me out when it turned it's little head and looked right at me...I wonder if just for a second it was thinking "Damn, that's a lot of food!" :Q

You can buy the egg cases from garden supply places. When it's time they hatch out and you have hundreds of them. They're cool as hell when they're little. If you keep them all together they'll mostly just eat each other and you'll end up with a few bigger ones.

Do I need anything important besides food for them?
Can I have them roam around my house?

These are my favorite insect/bug ... They are completely harmless, actually they are quite fun to play with.

They don't bite, don't worry. I found a lot when I was 7 on my Aunt's "estate"(Mansion[Too bad she's a fake Aunt]), and let them crawl on my back. Best feeling in the world, although I AM young. So that may change. Anyway, nice pics.
