Is there a "XX" rating for movies? Has anyone here actually seen one? And what is the difference between NC17, X, XX, and XXX??? Is there a XXXX and above?

the official rating from the mpaa are G, PG, PG-13 , R and NC-17

X was changed to NC-17

XXX is made up by marketing dudes, those movies are not rated by the mpaa

There really is only G, PG, PG-13, R, and NC-17 according to mpaa.org. I think they used to have an X rating that became NC-17. If something is rated in the "X's", it really just means it has not been rated by the MPAA so the, um, producers are free to put whatever made-up rating they want on it.

There is no "XX" rating.

NC-17: Anything short of outright porn

X: No hardcore sex

XXX: Hardcore sex

X was originally an mpaa rating. mpaa trademarked g, pg, and r, but not x. so, very quickly, x was co-opted by the porn industry. afaik, the porn industry only uses x or xxx.
