I had over $400 of late fees with the Library of Michigan (huge library). I returned all the books at one of their drop-off stations outside the building and after 6 months the letters stopped coming.

they'll be so happy to get the books back that they won't charge you the fees...at least thats been my expierence.

Yep, but they will certainly continue sending you ambiguously threatening bills for a few months after, just in case they CAN scare you into giving them the monaaaaay.

LOL, I remember when I was like 15 or something and forgot about some library books. My dad got a letter in the mail, and he's like "WTF the library is threatening me with legal action because you have a book out." I was like ":confused:". I think the fine for the one book was like $15, but I turned it in during the annual "Return books with no fine" week they have around here. Suckers.
