HIV is spreading like wildfire in Trump states, whose health systems are failing.
Even Mike Pence had to suck up to Obamacare that he wanted to repeal, because Republican policies couldn't deal with a huge HIV outbreak in Indiana.

When then-Gov. Mike Pence faced the worst public health crisis to hit Indiana in decades, he turned to Obamacare — a program he vilified and voted against.

In 2015, as a rash of HIV infections spread through rural southern Indiana, state health officials parachuted into Scott County and enrolled scores of people into Obamacare's expanded Medicaid program so they could get medical care and substance abuse treatment.

OK then. We were lied to.

And therein lies a problem of accountability. It is easier to lie and do nothing than to risk working on some something hard which could never equal the lie. Who is really to blame? The snake who tells voters what they want to hear or the ones who pick the serpent when they should know better? I submit latter by far.

Yes. Do you agree with the observation, however, that this has long been a promise unfulfilled?

Of course, we have the same observation. My point though, Trump is moving to fulfill the promise of Republican governance.

Perhaps it was a promise never intended for fulfillment.

That's not what they tell their base to get elected. Voters are riled up and set forth believing that this is supposed to happen. That it will result in positive outcomes. Granted, some reduction and reorganization can be a good thing, but not with the "strategic" planning of washing our hands of any organized effort and instead relying on some mythical free market to "fix it".

Hey I'm providing clarification, not an endorsement. Unfortunately, guilty people don't tend to plead guilty without some kind of deal. The doubling down is inflaming things greatly. I believe Republican Congress has failed us much more then Trump. Not because they are worse than Trump but precisely because they are better than Trump. We need to remind them of that.

Better behavior does not necessarily translate into better policy.

Hell, if anything Trump took some populist mumbo jumbo and then stole the rest of the package straight from the GOP. It was rather disappointing to me when he picked up popular dog whistles towards the end of the campaign. There was once a glimmer of him positioning for some sort of... independent streak. He actually thought we should provide medicare to all, to actually fulfill his promise of helping people. What was once a Bernie Sander's position on healthcare was corrupted into the !@#$ show we have today. So truly... it was they who he jumped in bed with, and they who made his policy worse.

I wouldn't lump any praise on the "quality" of the Republican Congress. The craven letches who endorsed Roy Moore.

In fairness it's pretty consistent with his past actions so nobody should be surprised.

Ask Roy Cohn.

Sounds like a Paul Ryan special. Like Trump has the foggiest idea what LIHEAP is. I'd be shocked if he managed not to put his underwear on backwards daily.

I'm thinking he gave up on that and he's having his adult diapers being put on by whoever's in charge of sucking his ass that day. 😉

I do not believe we possess any tool other than time to force accountability upon the present Republican establishment. If that is the case, then the only hope we have is for them to desire accountability, and for that they must receive something in return. I do not think belief in some desire not to completely swindle America is too much to offer.

And if you think "better than Trump" constitutes too much praise for them, then I suggest you take up arms against our government, because if I felt as you do than it is what I would be doing.

I've read right here among other places that HIV/AIDS has become a nothingburger. A disease for which there is a treatment. Based on that,
Now I understand your lack of knowledge on teh subject. Perhaps a newspaper or two might enlighten you a touch more than an echo chamber.

This attempted accountability by the free press has provoked Trump and friends to wage war upon them with their fake news propaganda campaign. Imagine that, the king of fake news and falsehoods trying to paint a negative picture of the institution that caught him in both the private and public sectors.

Thank you for providing evidence for the capacity to escape accountability.

Conservatives actually got a President that carries out their agenda, remind you of the frogs that wanted a King in Aesop's Fables? People that don't know good when they got it. LOL

Well this time he's golden but eating his own just the same.

Unfortunately, it is not only the people who wanted the King that suffer and quite possible those who didn't that suffer most.

Decades of economic malaise & relentless right wing agitprop have culminated in the election of Trump & a Repub Congress. Leadership matters more than followership. Denounce that, not the people who have been beguiled.

This is not normal despite the cult members parroting the talking points.

Well it certainly wasn't done with Progressive approval which is at the heart of all the whining here.

I've read right here among other places that HIV/AIDS has become a nothingburger. A disease for which there is a treatment. Based on that, I question why we even need a council devoted to this. I understand fully that it made a lot of proggies feel real good, helped keep the government big and bloated and probably helped keep real estate prices inflated around D.C. We've got a man in the top slot that doesn't give a shit about any of that. I'm thankful.

The pendulum is swinging but right now it's really more of a scythe. About time. Government is going to shrink during the Trump presidency. It should be obvious by now nearly a year in. Reality hits some far quicker than others. Some never. Not. my. problem.

Life is a series of choices. We may never know what the right ones are but many people come to an understanding of what constitutes a glaringly obvious wrong choice. One of those choices is how we choose to react to what is going on around us and that includes on the political stage. I'll never understand those that choose to be in a constant state of agitation a year after an election. Hey, my Pfizer stock has been doing well. Why not cash in on all the anxiety I say! Think and prosper or think and grow bitter. Look at that, another choice.

This post starts with a completely incorrect assumption and proceeds to argue from a position of complete ignorance.

If you have no idea as to the current state of HIV or treatments, you have no fucking business at all commenting on it or even expressing an opinion.

This, this comment right here personifies the running anti-intellectualism that is infecting our society, now from the top down.

Good fucking god, people's lives are at stake, and you have an ignorant fucking opinion about it. What's more, you are not ashamed of your ignorance or willingness to share an opinion that means life or death to people based on that ignorance.

Like I said he might want to pickup a paper or two. He admits to getting his news from here, from those who feed him the crap he so enjoys hearing.
