If I was CEO at Nvidia I would instead work with the CTO to make the GPU's manufacturered using a 65nm production process and instead in August 2007 release the 8900 series with higher clocks with the 8900GTX at around 650/2000 core/mem.

Nvidia does not have a single gpu on a 65nm process, and I'm sure they would first test it out on a low end or midrange card before redesigning the g80 for it. Furthermore, 65nm is not a simple optical shrink like 90m -> 80nm, so going for 65nm would take considerably more work. I'm speculating if the g80 refresh comes out on 65nm, you won't see it anytime before October 2007 at the very earliest.

Personally, I think its been long overdue for someone to blast nVidia and ATI (especially nVidia) for their extreme pricing. And I hope nVidia gets a huge trouncing from all over the industry for it too. I love their products but their greed is just gotten too much in last couple years. Even if the 8800 Ultra was twice as powerful as the 8800 GTX I wouldnt pay their price. nVidia really needs to rethink their ways of pricing.
There's another thing nVidia and ATI need to do. Instead of making cards bigger and better they need to work on making them smaller and better. The cards are outgrowing the case limitations. A good example is the G80 cards. Specifically the 8800GTX. Its a monster of a card in size and it wont fit in alot of cases. This isnt good for the consumer. The manufacturers need to start microsizing their products. Alot of other industries have done it and I think its time video card makers seriously consider doing the same.

you heard the bad news ? ... my MB is kaput
[damn Abit IC7 PCI slots are dead]
and my upgrade to C2D/2GB DDR800 + ASrock MB is costing me net $35 after selling my P4/PC3500
:Q
--good things happen too!
i am waiting on the PCIe ultra ... probably won't take full advantage of it with a 4x PCIe slot![]()
