I'm thinking of making a few changes:

1) Allowing people to hit an "up arrow", a "down arrow", or an "X" next to each question. If a question gets enough X's, it'll be removed. If a question gets enough up arrows, it'll be at the top, and enough down arrows, it'll be at the bottom. Too complex? Lets people see the most popular questions when they view the question page.

2) Allowing comments on questions. Making it so if you ask the 8ball a question, it automatically creates the question in the "Ask a person" section, but without allowing responses. If you ask a person, it'll automatically allow responses. That way the questions are in the same area.

Thoughts?

Keep it simple. What you have works, though I would have some better formatting and have it aligned to the left like previously suggested.

I wanted to make it so people can ask questions and get responses from humans. Should I make that a separate section all together?

Yeah, if you could keep a log that can be posted on ATOT. Get Oldsmoboat and NuclearNed to answer questions. Give them some liquor and a sexy typing assistant.

I second this idea.

Should questions be able to be answered by anyone? Or just approved people? And should you have to create an account to answer questions? What about asking them? And should the ask questions part be integrated with the 8ball so the questions overlap, or should it be two separate things (questions asked of the 8ball aren't able to be responded to/commented on, etc.)

I would contribute to the liquor fund.

I'd say that anyone can answer the questions, provided they register. As for the overlap... I say why not. As long as the people answering the questions keep it reasonably clean, there should be a lot of lulz in this.

Yeah, but how can you have someone consistently nail the responses in close-to-real-time? I think only approved users would be good. Too much BS with pedestrian teenager responses. I want quality.

Agreed.

Well, because I have 2500+ questions asked of the 8ball in less than a year, and not even 10% of those are from ATOT (I can tell by referrers). So it makes me think that people will abuse the "Ask a person" section if there's no other place to ask random questions. Which makes me think I should keep the 8ball as it is, WITHOUT registration, and make the "Ask a person" a separate section completely with registration. Those questions will be listed just as they are now, but people can respond to them. Hopefully, it won't be abused because the 8ball will be where the "fun is".

Do you have to register to ask questions? Or anyone can ask a question, and only registered, APPROVED people can respond?

Registering to ask would stifle the spontaneity. Agreed on the latter, though.

OK, so anyone can ask, and approved, registered members can respond?

Problem is without registration you need to have some sort of captcha system to prevent spam, but they are still a bitch to enter in. Make registration optional, and registered members don't have to deal with captchas. As far as the quality of comments, it's the internet, you really can't do much to control them.

OK, I launched the people page with the ability to ask questions. I'm adding in the "response" admin section now. I'll have that done soon. Like, an hour.
