so, socialism works?

dictionary definition - collective ownership of the means of production to sustain economic equality

my definition - "capitalism is evil, causes inequality and denies freedom, so let's share everything out so all attain the most freedom"

from what you wrote it is pretty darn clear that you do not have anything close to a precise working definition of what "Socialism" is.

Until you have that you have no way to pin that label on any government of any country. Try harder not to fail.

Socialism is not a yes/no, it is a sliding scale. The question is not if we want to be socialist, as almost everyone is at least a bit socialist. It is a question of how socialist we want to be.

Presumably the OP likes his socialized army, his socialized fire department, his socialized road network, and his socialized water piping. I guess he parts company with Venezuela on socialized toilet paper.

I'd add... socialized police force, socialized national parks, socialized national weather service, socialized education system k-12, socialized college system(s), socialized public libraries... bridges... landfills, garbage collection, student loans, farm subsidies, FBI, CIA, EPA, polio vaccine (assuming he/she understands How the immune system works), prison system, museums, subsidies to banks, subsidies to large corporations such as General Electric, energy companies, etc., veterans health care, education benefits to retired veterans family members in California (free tuition to any state school... includes Junior college, state schools and University of California schools), pay and benefits to ALL ELECTED OFFICIALS, sewer systems, R&D (most of which occurs in academia), food stamps, medicare, county courtsystem, state court system, federal court system, IRS, bird flu vaccines, GI Bill, Hoover Dam, golden gate bridge, city zoos, state zoos, medicaid, Food and Drug Administration, bird flu vaccine, swine flu vaccine, health carefor 911 workers, city beaches, state run beaches, municipial lakes to provide water for drinking and farms, city busses, snow removal on state roads, Centers for Disease Control, public lighting of roadways...

socialist systems, all of them... i got tired of typing these in, there are more of course

You're an ass for making light of a shitty situation. One day someone will hit you in the head and wipe that smile from your face.

Flushing seat head.

Yay, happiness is evil.

I actually sympathise with them, but think their political system caused it.

socialism has never worked and never will. Those idiots who vote for socialism now have to pay for their stupidity.

Hopefully this shuts up the idiots on here who want socialism.

Socialism is a Construct. Under some people's definition a Church is a socialist institution. They pass the plate around and people make donations. In return they are given guidance by some preacher. Then the Church also may be supporting the preacher paying for the church and even providing for the poor. This is a great system because there is no tax and people give what the want to give.

Socialism is only evil when people are forced to pay a tax.

Would you characterize the U.S. regulated free-market economy as purely capitalist?

US, Canada, and many countries have a mix of capitalist and socialist values and policies.

Hopefully these idiots learn their lesson and stop voting for socialism. Those morons can wipe with their hand they shouldn't get toilet paper.

If only we could eliminate all the socialism in America. If we just privatized all the schools, police departments, fire departments and the DoT we could save a fortune and pay less in taxes with surely no down side.

Do you really consider those means of production?
