I've got the summer more or less free and I'm trying to save money so I can't take many trips. Should I take the plunge and buy WoW?

I'm sorta scared, I had a roomate in college that was hooked on Evercrack and I saw first hand what a MMORPG can do to a person, and it wasn't pretty.

I don't play MMORPG games for the same reason you mentioned. I've seen so many people who got hook on MMORPG games; it's somewhat insane. I guess it's not really a problem for some who have good self-control skills but knowing that I'm not that kind of type, I don't even try playing those games. To me, MMORPG=Drug.
 
Do you LOVE playing against other people? Especially when the playing field is lopsided? If so, it's for you. If not, don't bother - it's just a pretty, imbalanced PvP game.

UO isn't free unless you play on illegal servers.
 
yeah, if you're not sure you want to do a true mmo as such try something like guild wars, free online, plus all the pve and pvp benifits without the massive level caps or urge to obtain uber gear that is not truely atainable in a normal person's lifetime

UO isn't free unless you play on illegal servers.

They are not illegal servers, they are called free shards.
People host them for free so others can play.
They don't hack into the main UO servers.

Hmm I might have to check out UO. I remeber hearing a whole lot about it back in the day (Lord Britains assasination was it?)

meanwhile http://www.kingdomofloathing.com has kept me busy, though I don't visit it everyday I've still managed to make 5mill+ meat.

but seriously : if i could do it over, i'd probally have passed on WoW, I can't get myself to cancel wow, just keep trying to cut back and hoepfully at some point, i'll ween off it before it causes cancer.
 
I would say no. Its fun at first becuase its some cool graphics and little fun quests but I got old of it fast. While my friends are all lvl 60 and play all day i just couldnt keep on playing it. Took way too much time.

If you want to play the best one in my opinion...gotta go with the classic EQ. I have played many of MMORPGs and i still stand by EQ..with all of its faults and farming..is still the best.

Anyone else hear about AO? I was giong through my pcgamer and apparently its free now.

I just canceled my account, no time, too much money to pay for the crappy servers. always seem down or unable to login.
 
Heh its kinda funny actually. I was playing once and a while not really enjoying it that much when suddenly i couldnt log in anymore. For some weird reason they couldnt get any money from my debit card or it just woudlnt go through. It has money in it but it just wouldnt work with wow. So instead of trying to go through tech support i said..screw it..and just dont care.
