So, please tell me that when the new forums arrived we all keep our post counts . .

It took me long enough. . .

You almost get to keep your post count. During the conversion, there's a math formula that essentially subtracts 900 posts per thread you've started that was locked. 9,000 posts, if it was a thread about reaching lifer status. You also lose 1000 posts for posting this thread in the wrong forum. -Anandtech Moderator DrPizza

Heh, took me this long just to get 3k+...

It was alright between fusetalk versions for the most part, but the vB switch I am beginning to think is vaporware. Hopefully they will hold over, otherwise we'll have an unmitigated nef-fest....hmmm..........that could be fun come to think of it.

😀

yay

i cant remember what Derek and Anand said about post counts, they want to have all the posts and threads and such, I just cant remember what they said about post counts.

eh

so I guess I shouldnt have said anything. oh well.

 Congrats on Lifer status! :gift:

Please, when exiting the Lifer-Only-Restroom at the end of the hall, push the button on the knob in so that only those in possession of a Lifer-Only-Restroom-Key can get in.

I hate it when the common folk stink up the place. 😛

Keep an eye out for Duke Nukem Forever. I heard that the admins are planning to sync up the release of that with the move to vBulletin. I think they have this all planned for sometime in mid-December of 2012.

Actually, I think it was December 22, 2012.

Converting the DBs should be fairly easy. Basically have 1 mysql connection that does a SELECT (fields or * if lazy) and another connection that does INSERT, modifying the field names as needed. Do this for each table and done. There may be some instances where it's a bit more involved depending on how drasticly different the table structures differ, I'm sure there's more to it then just different field names/extra fields.

With a database the size of AT it may take a while, but probably no more then an hour. I'd use a compiled language and not php though, as php is not really meant for long execution scripts.

Why do so many people think that post counts are like IQ points? Really, whats the big deal? I would think the join date would be more important to people than post count.

Awesome, so we'll be able to enjoy both DN:F and vBulletin for about a week before the world ends.

And even that has been screwed up for some people during past updates.

What about both? For example the Grand Nagus himself...
