Why do you need 4wd to take your kids to school and go to the mall? 😕

why do you need an SUV to do that is a better question.

Aren't you the one who started the anti SUV bashers thread????
Now YOU are asking why soccer moms need SUVs?

They might like the styling, or the high driving position, so what is that to you?

You CAN get AWD SUVs 😉

I just don;t see the point in Getting a 2WD only one 😉 It is a tad ironing i now 😱

Some people find security in a full framed vehicle.

Even a 2wd SUV still has better ground clearance and more aggressive tires than a minivan.

But, the number one reason is the stigma of driving a minivan is too much and they can't afford the initial cost, maintenance costs, and the heightened frequency of repairs that a more complex driveline would demand.

interesting points. noted 🙂

you don't realize a lot of people buy SUV's for the same reason people here tell me not to buy a Miata - because SUVs are big, so therefore it's safer.
But studies have shown that there's actually no correlation between car size and safeness, but rather car price and safeness. It's true that smaller cars take more damage over a larger car if they were both to get into an accident before. But how the car is made tends to matter more.

Why they neglect the size is that people who drive SUVs tend to roll or flip them. If you're going on pure size, then the SUVs are safer.

Why?

Because I frequently need more cargo space than a sedan provides but less passenger capacity than a minivan has. Because I don't drive anywhere that 4WD would be required. Because I got a good deal. Because I live in the suburbs in Florida, not the slippy gravel of WA. 🙂

Yeah why would I spend extra money on something I will never use? I've owned a 2WD Escape for four years know and there has never been an instance where I wished I had spent the extra money and gotten AWD.

I have a 2wd Durango. The 2wd is faster, has a higher tow capacity, and gets better gas milage than the 4wd version. I don't have to service a transfer case or front diff. I live in South Florida, so it's not like I have a lot of snow to deal with - not to mention that PART TIME 4wd vehicles are worthless for 95% of real driving conditions anyway - although useful for getting you out of mud/snow/sand that once-every-5-years that it might occur.

Same here, only I have an '05 Escape....The reason I wanted it was since I moved to MI and didn't know anyone, I wanted something with more cargo space for moving furniture, etc. The only reason I might need 4WD would be to get to work when it snows, but why pay extra to get to work??

my buddy just bought one that is 2wd... i was like why did you do that... his response... save gas and it really never gets bad up here, why do i need 4wd... :disgust:

I hope to hell I can find a 2WD Navigator when the time comes to buy one. There's a certain principle that applies here. One that I adhere to tenaciously. I don't want a GD FWD minivan for this very reason. I want a nice rugged body on frame, with V8 torque, driving the rear wheels as God intended. No CV joints, no transfer case, no expensive drive train components that aren't completely necessary. No sideways mounted engine, with a tranny crammed under the hood as well. I work on my own cars and that shlt's got no place in my stable!

pssst....

Most of us here don't live in Australia. We actually have roads - generally, paved roads - that lead us to wherever we need to go.

😛

PS: Your sig is huge. Take all the unnecessary carriage returns out, thanks.

Navigators have independent rear s uspension now.. which means CV joints right?

I wouldn't doubt it. God knows you need a fvckin' sport's car suspension on a damn truck...

It looks like that setup uses simple $15.00 U-Joints, though.

It's still alot of weight and complexity. The Navigator isn't any more simple than my 240sx. With all the luxury gear, probably a lot more complex.

Because the other soccer moms think your are SUPER COOL AWESOME if you show up driving a big SUV like on TV.

Not everybody is gonna go off roading. haha

If you're after cargo or people room, a minivan will do that for a lot less money both up front and in gas.
