So, one of my profs rescheduled our final exam.

PRIOR TO THE END OF CLASSES for the semester. Granted, he gave us 2 weeks notice, but disregarded the fact that this is against school policy, or as one of my other professors put it, ignored a verboten rule that the Dean of the School of Business has emphasized and has apparently declared it a terminable offence.

I've sent an email to the prof outlining this, yet he's being stubborn and dense. Someone must have made travel plans based upon being able to get out early.

Hm, to go to the exam tomorrow, or just pass this one off to the school of business. Hm.

Edit: Exam has been rescheduled.

The real question is, are you a big enough dick that you'd want to get somebody fired over having an early test? Is this a particularly bad prof? Did this prof touch you in the naughty bits? Suck it up and take your test like an adult instead of whining like a man child.

Whether he gets passed on to the School of Business or not is out of my hands, when one of my other professors found out that this prof was doing this, he asked for the professor's name. I can only assume that he will probably report this on his own.

I certainly don't want to get the guy fired, he is a good teacher, but the fact remains this policy exists for a reason. In my faculty no more than 30% of any course's can be administered in the last two weeks of classes. Between our final project, presentation, and final exam, nearly 50% of our total mark would be determined in the last 14 days of class.

The reality is that he is breaking the rules, the rules are there for a reason, my major is in a particularly labour intensive focus, entrepreneurial studies, and our last two weeks of classes primarily revolve around major group projects, group papers, and interviews, which really means that we don't have the time to study for anything before exam week, hence why this policy is in place.

Truth be told, I don't see why he wouldn't schedule it for the DAY it was ACTUALLY assigned on which was next Wednesday, and he has a chance to make this right. I hope he does.

Fair enough... just seems like you want to ruffle his feathers just because you can. Not because you actually are getting hurt by this.

Nah I like the guy, hence why I emailed him before someone takes this to someone in a more 'official' capacity. I wanted to make sure that he got the opportunity to make this right.

The fact is, most of the people I know in our class are pulling all nighters because this little nugget was scheduled for a time when it wasn't supposed to, and I think the entire class would benefit from another 7 days of study time.

Like I said, the policy exists to prevent a clusterfuck like this from happening, and the impression that I've received from my other professor is that this is a terminable offense, because most of the time professors do this it is so they can take off for a winter vacation early. Also, my other professor said that the Dean has been emphatic that this NOT allowed, so I'm wondering why he would even try to do this.

Its not a big deal - I bet if you took a vote, most of the students would have approved of it, as they want out early too.

Er, I don't think so. The exam was scheduled for the first day of exams, if anything it is everyone's first exam.

The fact is, student vote aside, it's not allowed and I'm sure the 6 other people in the class that I talked to tonight that had presentations yesterday and today would disagree with having it today.

A year from now, you'll wonder why you put up such a fuss. Come 'on.

Whether the prof gets in trouble or not you still need to pass that exam.

Students are so damn whiney nowadays. If you bitch now, I can just imagine how hard the real world is going to be for you. I certainly wouldn't want you for a coworker/employee.

When I went to school teachers/professors could do pretty much anything they wanted. We groaned a bit, but at the end of the day we sucked it up and got on with our lives. The pussification of this world is in full gear.

I'm not a pussy, I'm an overwhelmed student that hasn't been to sleep before 4:30 in nearly 1.5 months because of my work and school. If I can use the school's policies to reschedule an exam so that I can do BETTER in my course work, I will.

That is your problem. No one is school is going to give a flying fuck about your work. YOU should be able to manage your life.. now stop whining.

Looks like there's a bunch of old people who read the forums here who've forgotten what it's like to go to college and work. Most seem to be in agreement that you should just respect any instructor's desire to walk all over you, or whatever it is they please, just like Penn State.

I agree with the OP. Final exams are scheduled during a specific time period after the semester has ended to allow time to finish other work and then properly prepare for the exam.

Like I said, the exam policy exists for a reason. I understand that the prof and some of the students might want to end the class earlier, but that some of us can't, and the policy exists to prevent shit like this from happening.

The result I would get from writing today would not be as good as the result I would get from writing tomorrow.

Just wait until you enter the real world. Then you'll see how easy college is.

I have entered the real world, I own my own company, and I've been in the full time work force for 3 years.

Doesn't change the fact that this is bullshit mmkay? It's akin to telling your employees to stay until 8 at night or work on Saturdays when there is a state law that says it's not allowed.

Then of course you get into the letter of the law shit, and sometimes you just have to do hat you have to do. The fact is I pay for my education, I'll get it in the way I'm supposed to in accordance with the rules.
