Okay, so here I am browsing the DailyTech blog and I come across this video:
Global Dimming

I really can't quickly sum up the video and do it justice, you'll have to watch it for that. But essentially it displays research evidence that appears that global dimming (a global cooling effect) is competing with global warming.

To truly understand my opinion you'll have to watch the vid. So, I'm thinking now. Do I continue on from here and say "Fuck it", essentially? Am I going to continue on unfazed by such things that seem to spell catastrophe?
It seems industrialization has brought us to a "point of no return". How could we go back to living a life similar to the one pre-dating the industrial revolution? There are so many people now, but I guess unemployment would go down since a HELL of a lot more manpower would be needed. (Though, now images of Stone Henge, the Pyramids, the Colosseum flash through my head. So monumental feats are still achievable despite such.) Although I doubt (this is based on no real data) that life would not be self sustainable in densely populated areas without it. No doubt chaos breaking out will also help thin out things and help bring about a disease unless the living can use remaining resources to destroy the carcasses and clean up.
Or, do we forge ahead with innovation and forward thinking? Do we the same thing that put us in the debacle we have now?....do we rely on industrial tech to solve our problems of the increased perceived relation to greenhouse gasses, warming effects and global dimming and catastrophic climate shifts.
There are a lot of naysayers about global warming. Well, it seems like science is stacking the odds in the favor of global warming. this global dimming is an anomaly which in part with the wind is buying us time from a warming trend. Whether it's completely our fault or not, our current presence amplifies the effects. I would agree with that 100%.
Take a look at the experiment in the video done about 9/11 - 9/13 2001 which all the flights were grounded and the average temperature (found through measuring temperature fluctuations) raised about a degree Celsius across the US. In 3 days. Coincidence? Maybe....It could just be another 9/11 conspiracy....whatver, not relevant.
So now we have some time as it appears. I would say the wind helps us out by pushing colder "particle polluted" air south. I've read (once again no sources, yeah I'm lazy) that ice in the antarctic is increasing. Okay cool so it's acting like a sponge (for I dunno how long, or the saturation point) for the water in the arctic that's melting is what I can take from this.

Now given all that. At what point now do we have the responsibility to the existence of mankind to do something without nuking ourselves from cleaning the air? I can already imagine the day is coming where either something has to be done, or we will burn. I guess one can choose not to think about it, maybe your kids will just have to bust their ass to figure out what to do. It seems like something drastic like population reduction is going to be necessary. Maybe a disease would be the perfect scapegoat because nobody would have to make that hard decision.

Anyway, given that we destroy, we rebuild....the stakes are higher. Possibly causing chain reactions plummeting our planet into inhabitability. In the near future, possibly within your lifetime. Would you feel a simpler life, or an advanced solution would help us survive longer? Assuming you even care ....if you don't you'll probably go about doing whatever you feel you need to do to suit yourself. So, vote fuck it.

This was really eye-opening to me. I'm fascinated and need to research more things, but I need to make an informed decision myself. I'm not trying to influence anyone, yet. I'm trying to read up more. I've started considering going back to school. Now it comes down...do I care enough to endure a drastic lifestyle upheval. Or do I just continue on just shutting off the lights as I leave the room, drive less....hoping someone else will figure it out or just let it run its course and maybe we (not all of us) will make it out okay. Thoughts on my stoned ramblings?

Wait, we need to WATCH a video AND read that? I hope this is one big joke.
A 50 minute video, no less.
Edit: Geez, that must've been a made-for-cable show. The "drama" was unbearable.
"This could lead to something...far worse." Cue ominous music, sirens, and quick flashes of disastrous images.

What we do is going to have an effect on temperatures. The questions no one seems to be able to answer are, "What can a change in temperature do?" and "Is it a bad thing?"

Warming, cooling, whatever: The primary focus should be to simply reduce the output of toxins into the environment. For example, heavy metals don't belong in our food, water, or air.

Global dimming is the gradual reduction in the amount of global direct irradiance at the Earth's surface that was observed for several decades after the start of systematic measurements in 1950s. The effect varies by location, but worldwide it has been estimated to be of the order of a 4% reduction over the three decades from 1960?1990. However, since 1990, the trend has reversed.

i think man was better off not knowing what the temperature of the earth was.

i vote for let's go back to the caveman days.
