Have been using Direct Connect hubs and over the last week, we've (me and other users on my ISP) discovered they capped our upload speeds to around 16KBps. They won't admit it though... our ISP... even when asked directly.

Downloads still go quick... just got XP SP1 at about 400KBps from microsoft.com. Our supposed cap all along was 10Mbps down / 1Mbps up... seems they only lowered the up speed. A friend just connected to my FTP server (which I know is against TOS) and only got 16KBps from me.

I don't want to hear how P2P users are bandwidth hogs and this and that - I know this... but I don't care - if they give us the bandwidth, I'm going to use it. All I want to know is... this happen / been happening to anyone else thru other ISPs?

At least you don't have byte caps yet.

Most ISP's here in Canada have decided to limit how many GB of data you can UL/DL in a month. Some ISP's are as low as 5GB/month. :Q

This is Optimum Online (OOL) - the #1 ranked cable ISP in the nation. It's bad enough they raised the prices on us... but now this? And they won't own up to it.

Honestly though... if it's not a cap, they better admit to some problem. DSLreports.com forums have tons of OOL users bitching about this.

You mean 2 years ago when we were making them rich ? Either way, they never promise anything for cable. Just that the max is capped at 10Mbps down / 1Mbps up.

Where are you located? I also heard rumors they left this "cap" on Nassau County people only now. Suffolk complained and got it fixed. Pls tell me it's not really a cap and that you're in Nassau.

Just did your test and upload recorded 133kbps which is equivalent to 16KBps. Your 946 up speed is equivalent to 118KBps which is what we're SUPPOSED to be capped at.

Don't get me wrong... they have a right to do this, just don't lie about it... or make us the guinea pigs while other nodes are getting full speeds.

Optimum online is not capped upload, I know for a fact - I run a channel on efnet and we use optonline servers b/c they up at over 100k/sec, right now one is upping at 103k/sec

You guys don't know what pain is.

I can only get dialup currently (too far for DSL and about 200ft away from the nearest cable box :( ).

...and I think my dialup ISP just killed me for being on too much :| I'm using my school 20min per session dialup right now :|:(:disgust:

WTF, OOL is starting to make caps now? Damn them. Raise in prices, more caps, this is getting annoying. The more people who complain about it the less they will try to pull this crap, like the newsgroups how they messed them up. They won't allow you to hold email as long. Lots of things.

I think the only way to show them would be to cancel service, but how many of us are willing to do that?

I just finished an online chat with an OOL rep. They totally gave me canned answers. He polled my cable modem and was able to tell that I "was possibly running a server". I straight up told him I had been and have stopped (which is true). "All I want to do now is upload files to my webhost and homemade mpg files to friends." After that, 2 mins later, all he could say was that there are no known problems in my area and he's escalated my problem and to check back a day or two. Same responses I got when I complained in a different way yesterday.

Looks like just a Nassau County prob too so far... and we here, are known as the "test bed" for their rollouts.
