I'm glad AIM+ is stil compatible with it. What's new? I don't see any difference besides the slight change in look in the log on screen...

the only difference in like the last 5 versions of AIM is that the number of ads keeps increasing.

I haven't bothered with the new version of AIM, i'm using AIM+ from Big-O-Software. It had lots of added stuff (translucent windows in 2k/XP, logging, cloning abilities) and also removes the banner ads. Tis good software *nods*. :)

AIM+ is excellent for all but one thing, for some reason I have trouble clicking on links that are sent to me. No big deal, just an extra step to copy and paste.

aim+ sucks because it clears your buffer at 65k bytes.. that's about the laziest thing a programmer can do, and it's like he has no intentions of finding a better method... perhaps like cutting the top line of the buffer when a new line comes in...

Well, it can be a pain, but it does save the text that gets cleared in 'History'.

Thanks for the heads up with the spyware guys, I hadn't known about that.

AIM+ initiates an HTTP connection to www.big-o-software.com (63.242.135.29) referencing a PHP script that stores the following information:
- AOL instant messenger screen name
- AIM+ information:
- all your AIM+ settings
- AIM+ version
- AIM+ paths
- OS and version
- Computer network name
- CPU and RAM information
- Screen resolution
- Current UID (NT)

I don't see the harm with that... if u really wanted all that information just ask. Most people here gladly post their computer hardware info everywhere anyways :)

The IP address is what many people, including me, wouldn't want to be made public.

So far it's been more stable... it's so weird, I can make a win 9x system rock solid, but couldn't get the last version of AIM to run stable for more then 2 hours, even while away. This happened on three machines, all of which had different OS on them, and only with the newest version. Hopefully this one is better.

Mindstorm, you beat me to it. :)

I did want to mention, though, that you can disable the statistics code right now (in any version of AIM+, you have always been able to, though it was only just added 2 releases ago). So, hopefully this won't keep anyone from trying/using AIM+!

We've tried to be as up front about everything as we could, but of course very few people read what we write ;) - so, it never got any attention until we got branded as SpyWare. You've always been able to turn this off, and it's never been something I intended to keep around, anyway.

The Big-O forum thread link posted by Mindstorm contains a lot more information for those who aren't convinced, or have questions for us, etc. Also, a direct way to turn off AIM+'s statistics on your machine right now is available here: (it's a .REG file from the Big-O servers)

I hated all the Trillian hype when it came out, thinking "how lazy can people get" ?!

Well I've finally given it a try last week and it's been great for me. Yes, it's good for multiple program connects simultaneously, but the client itself is just as good as AIM & AIM+... with no crap/clutter. At the same time, it's like an AIM+ for MSN Messenger (which I've been forced to use recently)...

What more can you ask for in a piece of software?
