My wifes fave aunt is dying. Been coming a long time, so she is dealing with it ok. She is going to have to sell the aunt's property to pay for the nursing home.

The aunt wanted her brother to have an antique bed of hers, and that's cool, but she also had one of these electric scooters that cost 1100 bucks and change. He wants that, and he wants it for free.

My wife got an email to that effect, and while normally I would say, yeah sounds fine, Charles is the epitome of drunken bumbness. A really sloppy drunk in his mid 70's who has been arrested countless times on DUIs and may well do time for a recent infringement.

So I can see him getting crocked and driving this into a wall. If I got pics out of it, or it finished him off, I would go for it, but I say NFW to him having it.

So a poll!

I would love to. I would also love to donate his liver to science, and it's already pickeled in alcohol.

No no no, wait. Put his booze in the seat of the thing and send it into a pond or something, a la Falling Down. Make him go get it.

damn, i thought this was gonna be a joke !

You would be irresponsible to give him the scooter. If he wants to pay you a grand.. sure, why not..

What does the aunt have to say about it? It is HER scooter, after all.

Her aunt is semicomatose. She can't ask her.

:(

Maybe you could loan it to him, on condition that it comes back to your wife on his death. Make sure you have proof of ownership, tho.

She could, but a fat lot of good it would do her.

Kinda sucks. Her aunt is one of the fave relatives. I had a lot of fun with the old gal. Such is life.

The important part of your post is: "...mid 70s...".

Fvck it. Let him have it. He's in his 70s. Trust me, when you hit 70, you'll be glad you did it. And whats $1100, more or less, to a grown man? Not sh*t.

Thing is we don't need it. The only reason we are disposing of the property in advance of her death is to pay her bills. It's the best way we can take care of her.

THe brother on the other hand is about as worthless a person as you would ever want to meet. I am not kidding that I would expect him to get drunk and drive through a crowd on it.

Oh, I see. The aunt is the one in dire need at the moment, so she's your first concern. She wanted to make a gift of the bed, but not the chair. You should respect her wishes.

That's how I see it. I gave my two cents, and I my wife is going to let other family members know. Other family members are circling like buzzards. That's one of the reasons I don't like this guy.

Oh, my wife is executor and has POA, so that's why it's her job to deal with this.

If it was me, I'd keep that under wraps as much as possible. No need to involve people who don't need to be involved - too much risk of more spatting. I say that because of the spatting that followed my grandmother's death. :(
