So my wife got into a car accident

Their car 😀

They rear ended our MDX at about 20-30 mph on the highway when they didn't see that traffic came to a complete stop.

Fortunately, no one got hurt and our car just had really minor bumper damage. Their Passat accordianed. I'm just glad I happened to drive to work and took the small car because she normally would drive it.

For some reason, a lot of people I know have been getting into accidents lately. Two people got 2 t-boned and 2 got rear ended including my best friend's wife who was sent to the hospital. All the drivers happened to be women. Only one was at fault though.

When I got rear-ended at a red-light by a Sonata which I figure was doing 30-40, I just got a big dent in my bumper but her front end was hell.

Ok. well, maybe not totaled but their hood accordianed, the lights were all busted and the radiator busted and started leaking.

AFAIK - the front end of most cars is DESIGNED to deform and accordion (impact zones) to absorb frontal impacts into stationary objects, such as hitting a tree or post. However, the rear has to be stiff enough to protect the fuel tank, and probably doesn't have quite the same give...

*sigh* so not totaled. I was going to be like...if it totaled it you have more than minor bumper damage - you'd have frame damage.

Considering it was an old Passat, repairing it may have cost more than it was worth so it could technically be totaled.

The car dove underneath my car, which stands a lot higher, so the damage was much worse for him.

Wouldn't that royally destroy the beautiful dual exhaust on your MDX????
