on fios, if I set a reminder for a program the tv would turn on when the cable box powered for the show time.

Didn't some older tvs default to "on" when they lose power for a moment? Perhaps there's some kind of short in your light switches that is causing and interruption in power for just long enough to cause that to happen to your tv.

That's easy to test anyway. Plug your tv into a power strip and, if it doesn't immediately turn on (thus proving that this is the problem), flip the switch on the strip off and then back on. Try doing it slowly a few times and then very quickly a few times. Whatever is happening May not happen every time you hit the switch, so do it enough times to rule that out for sure.

If it is a samsung, they are known to have power supply issues that causes this to happen. Caps going bad is usually the problem, google for an easy fix.

My first thought would be a problem with the electronics, like bad caps, as someone else mentioned. They can cause all sorts of weird behavior. Also, I don't know about your TV but some modern TVs have some sort of motion sensor (or similar) built in. I remember my father complaining that his fancy TV would shut off after a certain amount of time if he didn't move around enough. I wonder if your TV has something like that and it's malfunctioning.
