So my PS3 spontaneously died tonight

I got a movie in the mail today, and I put it in the drive this evening to watch, and walk away for a few minutes. Though it took the disc in, I got no standby light, no power light - nothing. I tried replacing the power cord, and that did not help at all.

The machine was out of warranty, so I kind of ripped it apart with my leatherman and took the drive out. Now I am trying to get that disc out of there so I can at least watch it on another drive or send it in for the next movie in my queue. Anyone have any tips on getting discs out of that drive?

If the machine itself wasn't dead before, it is now - I kind of bludgeoned it a good 20 times with my leatherman and hammer taking out frustration on it, but it would be nice to at least get the disc out of there.

Thanks for any ideas.

Uhh.. Could of sent to Sony repair where they would've sent you a new one and took the disc out and mailed it to you instead of breaking it apart.

Uh, yeah. And the cost to fix it would be a lot less than the cost of a new PS3.

Wow... I hope that wasn't a 60 or 20 GB model you destroyed. Even dead you could have likely made some money selling it rather than just tearing it apart.

And Sony is still returning 60/20GB models for the $149 out-of-warranty repairs, they apparently haven't run out of spare parts yet.

Oh well, maybe the next game adairusmc buys should be "Metal Anger Management Class 4" 🙂

that or he has more money then he has sense. I would never take a hammer to a expensive piece of hardware no matter if it is out of warranty. Someone is always willing to pay something for it.

No, 80 gig.

I dont care about the money of the thing, and I did not know that they took the out of warranty repairs that cheap, but oh well. The only thing it was used for was blu-ray movies, so I just replaced it with a standalone blu-ray player instead.

I didnt beat the crap out of the whole machine really, just the blu-ray drive. In the end I was finally able to get that disc out though.

My ps3 died with a NetFlix BRD in it a while back. RMAed to Sony and they fixed the PS3 and returned the disk with it, mailed it back to NetFlix without any issues.

One would usually check up their warranty or out of warranty service first before bringing a hammer into it.
