So my mom "forgot" the combination number to the safe ... what now?

Not sure what really happened but she's had this safe in her house for over 2 years now. She's been using
the key "feature" of the safe where she just locks and unlocks it. She accidently turned the combination
portion of the safe and that triggered the safe to now switch to using the combination feature and not
the key feature. Does that make any sense?

The manual is inside the safe and she's got everything she needs in there. She supposedly had my bro
emailed the company and they want $6 and they'll send the default combination number.

Any other way around this?

As I see it

Pay 6 bucks

Pay a professional locksmith a few hundred dollars

Destroy the safe with expensive tools.

You pick.

Damn ... they really charge that much.

Not even sure how the company just told her to cough up $6 and they send the combo code.
Proof of purchase?

Agreed. And tell your mom to be smarter next time.

When she bought the safe, she would have registered it.

God damn mom gets on my nerves.

Now, i went to sentry's website and they told us how we can go about getting a new combo.
Do they have some special code that unlocks all safe?

I mean what if she had gone about changing the code?

A couple of hundred?

At work and also at a friends house a combo got lost and needed a locksmith to come out and get safe open and got charged at work place 60.00 and at friends home 75.00, most smith just require you to bring in or have at hand proof of purchase and ID and they have you fill out a form ect ect.

Have your mom give a couple of calls to get the best price and she will need the model # for the safe.

They'll send you the "default combination?" heh, wtf is that, the combination that opens all their safes? That doesn't sound too secure...

exactly! But after reading the FAQ, I think they ONLY know the default code, which is what my mom needs.

All you need is a diamond tipped power drill and a few diamond tipped drill bits.

Each safe has an original default combo. It's not like their is one combo that works on every safe.

Right ... what I dont understand is she said she "triggered" the combo mechanism by turning the knob. She used to just
use the key to lock and unlock. Is this true? Maybe she's not doing something right.

It's more likely she never set the combo(since she never used it in that mode), so the default combo would still work.
