I just spent 13 hours implementing the algorithm that winzip uses to compress files via java. Feels so good to see it working perfectly after so much work.

Creating an algorithm requires an in-depth understanding of the problem to be solved and the steps necessary to complete the operation. How would a programmer even know where to begin on a 'Girlfriend' or 'Social skills' algorithm?

I did this in my spare time, not something I'm turning in to anybody. And I wrote code for a robot that can navigate my school's entire building back in high school. Won me the programming applications competition, got a scholarship out of that as well.
