Managed to put a 12"x8"x3" dent into the side of a Porsche (maybe a 924? I know its not a high end or new one, the owners are college students) by backing into it. He was pulling out of the lot behind my house, and the Porsche was parked parallel to the alley and right next to it (the wheel was maybe 3" from the side of the alley. Says he never felt the impact. Somehow, I think he was slightly more intoxicated than he claims (he went to the bar for $2 pitchers) if he never felt this impact... the dent wide and 3" deep. Its on the rear quarter panel right behind the passenger door.

Anyway, how much does repairing this sort of thing cost on a Porsche?

A LOT

My eclipse ('92) was hit a few months ago with the same type of dent. You don't realize what all they have to do. The quotes I was getting were in between $1k and $1.2k. I hope your friend has insurance.

he said he didn't feel it LJ, so thats a big yes.

BTW thats gonna cost a fortune, 1.2K is my guess. they have to grind off the paint throw in a few studs, slide hammer it out, pound it back into shape w/ a body hammer, grind off the studs, body fill the divets, and repaint the panel. and thats just if there's nothing structurally wrong. but its WAY cheaper to pay it out of pocket then it is to go through insurence.

He's got insurance, with a $500 co-pay. And I know its going to be more than $500. Its more of a curiousity thing, rather than "hey, maybe it'll be under your co-pay!" I had to talk to the owners around midnight, and then the cops came around 1:30 or 2AM while he was still at work (Fedex night). I talked to the cops. He had to call the cop before the cop got off shift, of the cop was going to treat it as a hit and run. Dennis (my roommate) gets back after his shift ends at 4, and is all pissed off because I told the cop his car's color and make (what am I going to do, say "Gee, officer, I dont know"?), because he was thinking of getting his bumper cleaned off (some white paint from the Porsche was rubbed onto it) and denying it.

Lets just say I'm not pleased with him ATM.

Well, the police know about it now, and IIRC, in Ohio, you have to report anything over $400 dollars. So, his insurance is about to find out. The guys who got hit are making noises about a new quarter panel. No matter what happens, the way I figure it, its not going to be cheap, since he had the luck to hit a Porsche

Time to get a new roomate.

3" is a pretty deep hit- you have to be backing up pretty fast for that.

Yes, it is pretty deep, but OTOH, its a Porsche, they might have made the panels out of a weaker, lighter material to bring the car weight down.

it might be even more than that... My cousin had a good size dent in her rear quater panel, and they repklaced the thing since the dent was too large, and then painted the entire side to try to match the color. In the end, it cost her nearly 3k.

If its the rear quater panel and he wants it replaced it will be damn expesive, a new pannel alone will cost around 1g, and the only way to get those panels off and a new one back on is with a very good welder. I have a 931 (same body as 924) which i would like to convert to the gt car, and i have been struggling to find someone who is capable and not trying to charge me an arm and a leg... so good luck.. and depending on his record it might be cheaper and easier to let the insurance company pay for it...

This is my backyard (photo from the realty company from last year). The red line is where the Porsche was parked. The blue X is where my roommate parked (same spot as the car in the photo). The dent on the side of the Porsche looked like it could only have come from someone backing out of the parking spot where the X is. Cops arent all that frigging stupid
