Microsoft DOES hate Sony.

Miyamoto already talked about the system after Wii. They said it will be HD

On that note Moore says 2 for 1;

Microsoft sides with Nintendo in fight vs Sony

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp. (MSFT.O) sided with rival Nintendo Co. Ltd. (7974.OS) on Wednesday in the fight to unseat video game leader Sony Corp.(6758.T), saying many consumers will choose to buy both of their machines for the price of one PlayStation 3.

The bad blood between Sony and Microsoft in the fight for dominance in the nearly $30 billion video game industry has escalated over the last few days, with both sides trading barbs at the E3 Expo, the video game industry's annual trade show.

Microsoft entered the next-generation game console market first with its Xbox 360 last November.

Sony aims to extend its market leadership with its upcoming PS3, while Nintendo plans to offer a new game machine called Wii in the fourth quarter.

"Tell me why you would buy a $600 PS3?" Peter Moore, a Microsoft vice president, said in an interview. "People are going to buy two (machines.) They're going to buy an Xbox and they're going to buy a Wii ... for the price of one PS3."

Microsoft predicted on Tuesday it will have 10 million Xbox 360 consoles in the market before Sony launches the PS3. The high-end Xbox 360 sells for $399, but it does not include a built-in high-definition DVD video player that comes with Sony's PS3.

Sony plans to sell a premium PS3 model for $599 when it debuts in North America on November 17, and Nintendo has not yet disclosed pricing for Wii.

Wii comes equipped with motion sensitive controllers to allow users to mimic the motion of wielding a sword or swinging a tennis racket.

Moore then turned pitchman for Nintendo's Wii, the latest offering from the Japanese company that once dominated the video game industry.

"People will always gravitate toward a competitively priced product -- like what I believe Wii will be -- with innovative new designs and great intellectual property like Mario, Zelda and Metroid," Moore told Reuters.

Sony currently dominates the worldwide video game market with a 66 percent share, while Microsoft and Nintendo each hold 17 percent, according to Strategy Analytics.

"We have 100 percent market share of the next-generation, and their job is to take that from us," said Moore.

"When I think on everything that we've got going right now that is real versus what Sony promises to do six, seven months from now, obviously we feel very good about where we stand."

LOST IN TRANSLATION

Despite Microsoft's head start with the Xbox 360, the software giant still faces an uphill climb in Sony and Nintendo's home turf.

Microsoft received a tepid response to its Xbox 360 debut in Japan and demand fell short of expectations during last year's holiday season when it sold about 100,000 machines.

The company introduced a competitively priced console in Japan, but some of its game titles did not appeal to Japanese gamers. Moore expects upcoming role-playing games like "Lost Odyssey" and "Blue Dragon" from the creator of the popular "Final Fantasy" series to do well in Japan.

"Quite frankly," said Moore, "if we're sitting here a year from now and things continue to fall flat, then we might say 'we don't know what to do anymore."'

"The enemy of my enemy is my friend..."

I went yesterday and I'm going again today and tomorrow

I waited in line for 2 hours to play the wii... along with a crapload of other people. I'd have to agree that nintendo is definitely stealing the show.. there were even lines to play the new DS games and everyone in line for the wii was playing their own DS, it was pretty cool hehe

I stopped by the sony booth for about 5-10 minutes to check out the PS3 (seriously spent most of the day at nintendo) and I was not really that impressed, especially with all the hype i've been hearing. Graphics wise it looked a lot like the 360 IMO. I didnt play it since i didnt have enough time, so i'll check it out today, but i dont think they had the consoles out.. looked like they were running off of pc's like the 360's were last year

I'll take some pics today.. worst part of the show so far is parking... ugh. people trying to charge $40 to park! luckily i found a place for $20, but it was about 5 blocks away from the convention center

First off, enough with the price of the PS3. If they wanted it cheaper, they get rid of Blue Ray and Wi-Fi and all of a sudden, its cheaper than the 360. So enough on the price.

And no way in hell will the HD-DVD add-on be $100. The cheapest standalone player right now is $500.

And all these people talking about the Wii, I just can't see it doing well. To me, its a gimmick. It is super fun to play and try out, but seriously, the fun will run out extremely quickly. Right now its fun because you have to wait 2-hours to play and then don't get much time. If you have that sitting in your house, trust me, you will get bored of it extremely fast. Can you imagine inviting a friend over to play Madden and having to the move the controller all over the dam room?

As for the 360 v PS3, it was underwhelming to see little, if any better looking games on the PS3 compared to the 360. I feel that these are almost identical in power. It all comes down to the decision to use Blue-Ray. If that format becomes the next beta-max, Sony is in trouble. however, if it wins the format war AND developers need all that extra space, then they did a really good move.

Fanboy much? Where did phreakah mention pricing?

Did you bite on the PS3 hype and now you are stuck defending the PS3 so you don't feel like a moron for believing sony?

Fanboy?!? I own a Xbox and a DS. no PS2 or PSP. I'm far from a fan boy. I just buy what I enjoy.
Do you think the DS is a gimmick?

I do i hated my DS.. sold it after 3 months bought a PSP and still watch movies and use it as a MP3 player and game player while riding the bus.. and a web browser while sitting at starbucks..

DS is aimed at small kids just like the old gameboy..
there was nothing to keep my attentions on it at all.. still isnt...

mariocart? nintendogs? a crappy need for speed? please...

same with the Wii i agree it will have good sales... but I would bet any amount of money out of the 3 systems coming out its lifespan will be the shortest just like the GC... its been dead over 2 years technically.. software section for GC keeps shrinking while XB and PS2 are still growing..

that controller is still just a gimmic.. and for the record i hated thier GC controller as well.. uncomfortable in my hand...

and the tech Sony is stealing as well as Nintendo was M$s idea 5 years ago with the SidewinderX gamepad.. it had motion sensors as well and it BOMBED HUGE..

Dam it I want my GT4m for my PSP! f0ckers!

I want GTHD!

I feel the same way you do. I've owned a gameboy advance, advance sp, borrowed a game cube, but the selection of games really doesn't interest me. To each his own, don't hate CVsin just cause he has no interest in the nintendo stuff anymore.

You and cvsin really crack me up.

I love it. I don't see how you can be so blind austin. Nintendo is smart enough to come up with a great controller design (which sony is partially stealing for the PS3), yet they are to dumb to implement it right??? I'm totally sure they are going to make you run around the room to play Madden. Maybe with the baseball game....you'll have to throw the controller across the room to pitch, then while that controller is in the air, you'll have to run across the room and smash it into bits with your other controller.

I'm actually wondering about FPSs on the Wii now after seeing how difficult it was to turn quickly in Red Steel.

I was underwhelmed by Sony, and I actually had plans for buying all 3 consoles this generation. Here's why I was disappointed:
1. The pricing of the PS3 was awful. My wallet hurt from buying a 360, and my wife and I make pretty good money. Telling me I've got to pay 50% more than the already expensive 360 Premium for the "good" version of the PS3 is stunning. Add in the chopped features (I really could have used a 2nd HDMI port and the gigabit switch, believe it or not), and the price really doesn't seem worth it.
2. They didn't talk about backwards compatibility at all, which is worrisome given the current rumors.
3. The actual games they demonstrated were non-starters graphically, and didn't really seem to be all that much better (if that) than the 360 stuff already available. Definitely not better than some of the 2nd-wave 360 titles that are already playable (Lost Planet!).
4. The online strategy is still too vague - I worry it's going to be a repeat of the PS2 fiasco, where devs supported their own games for free - and badly.

I actually didn't find the whole "stealing from Nintendo and Microsoft" thing to be especially troublesome. Good ideas should be spread around! I think the system as a whole is pretty good, but like I said before, that price is a killer.

Both Nintendo and Microsoft left me with good feelings, but with reservations.

The digital output issue for the HD-DVD 360 attachment is very troubling, but I found the Live Anywhere concept to be extremely intriguing. Microsoft also had some amazing games - I really think Viva Pinata and Gears Of War could be AAA system sellers, along with Halo 3. The renewed focus on XBLA is excellent, but I did wonder what happened to the larger hard drive and background downloads, too.

Nintendo seemed to have a new, winning control scheme, but the lack of HD is troublesome - the Wii just looks worse than the 360. I think the lack of CPU power will also come back to haunt them as more and more complex games hit the market for the 360 and PS3. They also didn't talk about the Virtual Console enough, or about pricing for it or the console. In spite of that, I'm looking forward to seeing how things evolve - it might make a reasonable companion for the 360 I already have.

The progression from Turok to Perfect Dark (n64 shooters) was amazing, I'm sure they'll perfect it before the end, that is if it's even all that flawed at launch...

I'm definitely thinking that there will be a HDMI cable for the 360 released at the same time and/or bundled with HD-DVD drive. That's the only thing that makes sense unless MS is planning a huge screwup.
