I had that happen once, though it happened while I was lying there getting the blood drawn. They told me that I should've eaten something with protein in it before coming. Don't go on an empty stomach.

usually i drink a lot of orange or apple juice and eat a little something after donating blood. that's what you're supposed to do.

That sucks... I had a similar experience the first time I donated but that was mainly because I hadn't eaten anything. I've donated several times since without incidence.

Shouldn't piss immediately after donating blood. Seriously. I don't know the medical details but something about emptying the bladder can trigger a loss in blood pressure and your pressure was already low after giving blood. That's the same reason some men have near black-outs (or actually pass out) if they stand up and piss immediately after waking up. I had that problem a few years back. Stress plays a factor.

Anyway, I'm sure someone can explain it MUCH better than I have.

Kudos on giving blood! :)

Its called the val-salva maneuver, causes pressure on an abdominal nerve that regulates cardivascular system. Same thing with straining at number 2, may pass out...

Dizzines after standing is just postural hypotension.

Where is this well you speak of and why do you want to give your blood to him/her/it?

I've donated blood before w/ no problem. One of my friends supposedly start squirting blood when they took the needle out (stories I've heard, he was passed out). Cheer for giving blood though!

First time I gave blood they gave me this little squishy ball and said to start pumping it. They didn't inform me that after they got a good vessel and stuck the needle in I should stop. So after about 5 minutes of pumping at a good pace my eyes rolled back and I was sitting there with only whites showing (according to witnesses anyway).

Don't feel bad, just spend more time drinking their OJ and eating cookies.

I can't give blood, so no experience there. But I do take medicine I need to self inject in my thigh, now there is fun times for you. First time I ever did that... it took me 2 hours, it's not that I'm deathly afraid of needles, but it is so different doing it to yourself, especially when it has to go 1-2" in to get into the muscle.

I've never had any problems, but they always make me sit there and drink lots of juice and eat cakes and stuff for a while before they let me leave. And.... uh.... I protest the whole time.

I didn't even know they still made moon pies.

I donate every 8 weeks like clockwork. You gotta eat a decent meal before donating. The only time I ever felt faint was when I hadn't eaten for 6 hrs before donating. The local hospital here had a great sign up a little while ago too:

You have blood, we have cookies.

:D

That's exactly why I don't donate blood. I get woozy when I'm bleeding for some reason. I can see other people bleeding and such but don't like it when it's me.

The first time I donated they told me no alcohol for 24 hours. I was rather upset, because I was in college at the time.

Needless to say, The second, third, fourth, and fifth times, I did consume alcohol later that day ....

I'm like forever banned from donating blood. :( When I was younger, it was because of my tattoo's, now I've had anthrax shots, and a trip to the middle east.

There was something about having a tattoo done in the last X months time...don't really remember. I just saw "tattoo" and said "No". I'm tattoo free.

:)
