So my dad wants to run a 10K somewhere...

So my dad is turning 70 this year and he's always been into running. When he was younger he ran marathons etc and wants to do something thats more approachable for all of the family (my my sisters my wife etc) who arent runners. We came up with the idea of running a 10K as a group.

Anyone know of any website or registry which has cities and races like this so maybe we can pick a fun location? The run doesnt have to be anything special, more interested in picking a fun place.

Each city has their own local events so if you google 10k runs in your area you should see schedules and sign ups for a few. Would look for you but not sure where you're at.

Thats the thing, we want to travel somewhere else. Like Florida, the northeast, or out west somewhere. Would like to aim for May 2014 if possible. But location is more flexible than the timing.

active.com is pretty good and you can search by area.

The rock n roll marathon series has a few 10k's (I think) and they are a huge amount of fun.

go yosemite if you have never gone and hike/run together. How about hawaii? Theres a 10k in maui that follows the road to hana.

I know there are sites for Running Room, letsrun.com, runningtimes...

I divided people's 5000m times by their 1500m times and came out with about the same numbers almost every time. I don't think you're going to "prove" anything by going over 5K. I wouldn't bother racing more than 5K. In any case, I think there are free 5K training plans on the Running Times web site.

I know there are now 5K races everywhere now. There's been quite a shift since the 1980's (less interest in the marathon/half-marathon and 10K).
