So my dad just used some racial profiling. *UPDATE*

So my dad was just driving around and saw some middle eastern dude chilling taking pictures of the NYS Troopers Barracks and thought he'd stop by and see what the pics were for. (Sidenote: My dad is in public relations and helps the NYS Troopers out alot and also knows like 95% of the media people in our city, so it's not like he was just being a dick.) So when my dad pulls up this guy starts to act really odd, getting really squirrely. My dad asks him if he needs help w/ the pictures and asks what they are for. The guy just tells him 'No' and goes back to the pictures snapping away like a mad man. My dad takes down his license plate # and car info while he's walking away and calls his friend that works for the Troopers.

Now my dad said he stopped because he was just interested in what the guy was doing but i know he stopped because the guy was middle eastern. Was it alright for him to do that?

For all those who are going to say P&N: Fvck off, go there and wank yourself

UPDATE: So i went out w/ some of my friends tonight and just got home. Turns out my dad was asked to come back to describe the man he saw so they could verify it with their national database. Dunno if they had a match or anything buuut yea, i had to go by the area on my way to the mall and there were ALOT of state troopers flying all around the area...

And the reason i say Michigan in the poll part is because Brick from Anchorman when giving the weather forcast, he refers to the middle of the country as the 'Middle East'. Wasn't aware it was minority capital USA.

eh. i'd say over the top, but not really wrong. he's in that grey area. morally not justifiable, but praticalitly(not a word is it?) justifiable.

If I ran into some white guy taking pictures of some barracks and he got all anxious I probably would have done the same thing.

I'd say it's justifiable. If I were taking pictures of the State Police barracks, I'd expect to be questioned as well.

I fail to see any reason to need pictures of a SP barracks, in any situation. If they were pictures for a book or something, then the SP would've hired someone, who'd be identified with a badge or something like that. But individuals just going around taking pictures of such things is suspicious, no matter what their ethnicity. I would've simply called inside the barracks and reported him, and had a trooper come out to ask what he was doing.

He was wrong. Dude may have just been taking pictures and got disgusted because he's being harassed by some guy who isn't even wearing a badge. Even if the guy was a terrorist, he should have given your dad the finger!

I get racially profiled all the time. Last time (month ago) a cop pulled me over and asked for my license, registration, etc. Then he asked me where I was going. Then he asked me if I was on probation. I have never been to jail, never even got a moving violation, and definitely make more money than this putz, and this young dick wad with a badge and gun is sweatin me in my own neighborhood? I checked out and he just left. Didn't even feel the need to make up some sh1t like a flaky tail light or something. Now imagine some random jerkoff in an SUV flagging me over and asking who I am and what am I doing?

People need to mind their own business. This isn't communist russia or china. Part of the price of freedom is the knowlege that some will abuse that freedom. That doesn't mean we throw it out the window to feel "safe".

If he was a terrorist, he should have shot him in the face and asked questions later.

He wasn't anxious until after his dad stopped, which was because of his race. Had the guy been white it probably won't have happened, so it's not exactly the same thing.

Me too.

Man, you still around? 😉

There's nothing wrong with racial profiling whatsoever. It should be used more often. Why shouldnt you look for the likely suspects over others.

What your dad did is a bit odd, but whatever. He has the same right to ask "What's up" to them as anyone else does.

Racial profiling is flawed anyway because any particular race could just hire others to do the same thing for them. I don't care if authorities use it to question/stop people so long as they don't go any further without proof. I'm sure it helps them more than hurts.

Maybe he thought you used to be with the Raiders?

Watch one season of 24, and all of a sudden everybody's an expert on terrorists.

I think anyone taking pictures of the police barracks would be just a weeee bit questionable. Who wants pictures of the barracks?

And...michigan? I thought NYS is new york state...? did i miss something?

If your logic held any water the Muslim terrorists would hire Jews to be suicide bombers. They might even hire Christians, Hindus or Buddhists, but they have not, so far.

Where does that leave you? Muslim terrorists are responsible for every Muslim terrorist escapade so far. Why not profile in order to protect ourselves from Muslim terrorists by stopping Muslim people who are acting suspiciously?

Have a nice day. 🙂

QFT! Most douchebags here that support profiling have never been profiled themselves. I am Indian but most Americans can't tell the difference (its their fault, not mine) and I have experienced it first hand what some muslims and arabs go through. I'd say the OP's dad was being racist even if he didn't know it.

Michigan was mentioned because Dearborn is the center of the Arab population of the US and many suburbs here have significant populations of Arabs (MI probably has the highest number of Arabs in the US).

And HappyPuppy - go light yourself on fire.

That is the most retarded thing to say ever. How do you get the right to say if people can take pictures of the barracks or not. Did the facility have 'no photography' signs on them with a code section related to army instllations? No? Then fvck off.

That guy had every right to take pictures of whatever he wanted to. I hate d!ckwads who think they are counter-terrorism experts and gurus in the subject of photography.
