So my coworker calls in sick...

Ok, I work the night shift at a hotel and every morning between 5 and 530 a person comes in to prepare breakfast. Well, 530 rolls around and she isn't here, but 5 minutes later she calls me. Apparently she "forgot to call sooner" and is "in the hospital." I ask her why she's in the hospital and she's silent for a few seconds and then says, "my platelets" :frown:

Sorry, ranting about having to do extra work 🙁

Make sure she brings in a doctors note.

Last time I went to the doctors office they asked me if I needed a doctors note for work or school. That has to be a pretty crappy job if they don't have enough respect for you to believe that you were in the doctors office. Is this highschool again?

As much as it sucks, you really have no right to ask her why she is in the hosptial. She doesn't have to tell you at all.

Hmmm, platelets? I hope she is just lying because checking platelets for stuff in a hospital might mean cancer, and she could have not been wanting anyone to know too much.

a lady where my mom works did this.....they saw her later that day on the news, in the background of a report from a bright sunny park, she's just sitting on a bench reading.

Yeah, and as for the requireing a Dr's note, only if they are out for more than a certain number of days can an employer require that. Otherwise you will be begging for a lawsuit.

Good reason. Someone had on their desk one of those ripoff a day calendar things with random office facts. One was worst calling out sick reason. It stated that a woman called in sick and said that she was having "an autopsy" that day.

Sick indeed.
