So my city outsourced the paperboys

Update: New by-law now forbids this

Yeah, those kids apparently costed too much money so they switched to this other company that just throws the papers randomly at houses instead of actually putting them in the mailbox. My possible theory is that they may actually be aiming for the mailbox but they're using imperial storm troopers on hover bikes.

Here's a few hilarious shots:

On top of a car:

In the snow:

And this is the result: (inside snowblower)

These are all random unrelated incidents that I've been seeing on Facebook. Some of them are hilarious. :awe:

Personally I say they should just do way with paper copies, and make it optional for those who incist on having it on paper. Make some paper copies that go to designated areas like the library and city hall (never hurts to have some for historical purposes) but no need for every person to have one imo.

The whole thing is just hilarious though, especially the one on top of the car.

Your city was in charge of newspaper delivery?

Everywhere I've ever lived, the local newspaper took care of that themselves. (paperboys and such weren't "employees" in the traditional sense, but rather, independent contractors.)

I've had my paper thrown under my cars, in the bushes and trees, and even on top of my house over the years.
The lady who delivers my paper now puts it ever so nicely on my stoop...and in wet weather, it's double wrapped in plastic bags to keep it dry.

Don't know about your area, but there haven't been paperboys in many years around here, it's mostly adults.

Also they can't put them "in" the mailbox.

Depends...if you have your own "rural mailbox" then your newspaper can probably be delivered there. Nope...upon further research, that's against postal regulations.

However...keep in mind, the OP lives is the great frozen north, known as Canuckistan...so what may be legal or not for us...might be different for him.

Well not technically the city as in the municipality, but the local newspaper company. There's two newspapers, one that you subscribe to and pay for and get every day, and a weekly one that everybody gets for free. They used to have paperboys that would deliver it in the mailbox or doorstep if mailbox is too small. I personally don't care either way, but lot of people have been complaining about the new system. It's pretty hilarious though where some of these papers end up. I'm sure some have in fact ended up on roofs too, I'm hoping someone posts such a picture. :awe:

The last few paper "boys" were middle-aged guys who chucked the papers from their cars. They did a pretty good job, but the doors/lawns are pretty close to the street.

Yeah, there are things that are legal up there that aren't here. Mostly involving animals.

I can't remember the last time I saw a kid deliver papers. The last one was probably me :^D

Fuck newspapers. they're a waste of resources. I used to get some free piece of shit polluting my driveway a couple times per week, and the fucker that delivered it would leave his plastic bag tops in the road as he drove around. I think the paper went tits up, cause I haven't been stuck with it for awhile.

Our paper delivery driver offered to put the paper in a special "mailbox" just for the newspaper that they would give me, but I didn't want one. I couldn't see if the paper had arrived if it was in that little box, and just told them to toss it in the driveway, which I could see from the house.

I don't think kids have delivered papers here in many, many years. They're all delivered now by adults in cars with huge routes in the hundreds of customers.

Funny ... I was closing a bar at 2:00AM just last week and talking to a guy who delivers the local paper (I guess he was getting a buzz on before having to drive his route) and told him how much I hated getting the Wednesday free ad version of the local newspaper, because I just end up picking it up and throwing it away. He said that on Wednesdays he not only does his daily route, but has to deliver several _thousand_ of the freebies.

One of the reasons I don't get the daily paper is that it just gets tossed into the driveway, forty feet from my front door. When I was a kid (I delivered some newspapers) newspapers were placed either behind the storm door or just outside of it.

Dude, kids haven't delivered newspapers since the 1980's, maybe even the 1970's...

It's all been adults driving cars and throwing them out the window since then.

You still get the newspaper?

Yeah, and it usually goes in the recycling. Such a waste. :awe: I guess it's better than getting stuck in the snow blower though. I don't have a snow blower so I usually find it while shoveling. This started maybe like 2ish weeks ago. I imagine it's much faster this way though, so they probably do end up saving lot of money.

They should just discontinue home deliveries and make it on a per request basis, maybe just deliver to businesses. some people still like having the paper in the morning over a cup of coffee before they start work but the average joe probably just gets their news off the internet or other coworkers now. Heck, with facebook most people know the news before it's even printed.

Ah the joys of getting up early Sunday morning getting the paper before everyone else got up and quietly reading it at the kitchen table. Best part were the advertisement inserts!

I don't even think we can get a home delivery paper edition subscription anymore in my city. Also all the self vend news stands have disappeared in the last ten years also.

Actually now that you mention it, I don't think we have many of those stands here either. You'd put in a quarter to open the door and you can technically take as many as you want. It was an honor system. They used to be at bus stops, corner stores etc. There may still be the odd one here and there though but I don't recall the last time I seen one.

Exactly. I still read the news in paper on the weekends. I already spend enough time in front of a screen during the week.
