Well when the cable was working perfectly (the first 6 months), I had 5-10ms ping consistently and 7.8mbps (was advertised as 7.5)

With this dsl so far i cant get below 50ms ping, but it hasn't felt problematic in games so I guess it's a moot point.

The supervisor who was helping me out with my setup said he would look into it today ,so we'll see if anything can be done.

UVerse is a fiber connection.

Not in my neck of teh woods. Most Uverse installs here are FTTN - that is to the neighborhood VRAD, then copper for the last bit over VDSL2+. Those lucky enough for FTTP live in new build locs.

It's a building with a restaurant on the main floor, and two stories of small apartments above it. I guess it is a pretty old building.

Do you know the super/maint guy? Like I said, its terribly sensitive to line conditions so maybe you can figure out how to run a straight new CAT5e to the 110/66 block?

My VRAD is literally at the front of my complex (which is a group of 12 2 story buildings, I'm 3/4 of the way towards the back). But the adsl2+ program shows a 1700 foot loop length. The install tech took me around to all the spots in the complex and I now understand why this is so hard to make work right! The wiring comes from the VRAD out to at least 3 access boxes where the cables come up and join into smaller groups of cables. In all 3 of those my particular cable pair went out to a location unknown in a bridge tap. I can't imagine that the noise at HF that adsl2+ uses would be anything but ridiculous. Its essentially a massive groundmounted antenna.

It depends on peering, which varies on provider. Look around a bit and you'll find a nice fast host to test with.

I'm willing to bet that 5-10ms is when pinging someone on your local cable node, or even within the same ISP without having to bridge networks. Going off to a backbone usually gives roughly 40ms ping.

I find 80ms pings from the bottom of Florida's Wang out through the Atlanta hub, but anywhere on the AT&T net (for instance my work uses AT&T old fashioned 6.0mb/384k dsl) I get 30ms.

Look at this:

Talks about the error correction in use on vdsl2+ adding latency. Not sure aboot the adsl2+ you are working on though.

I'm still trying to figure out my Comcast connection. I was on 6 meg and regularly got 12 down and 8 up. I just bumped up to 16 meg and now I get 7-8 down and 4 up. I'd change it back but I'm afraid that it would slow it down even more. That and its a pain in the ass to make changes to my account.

Same happened to me, I was getting 16 down...sometimes more. Now I am on a 16Mbps connection and 6-8Mbps is about the best I get.

Correct me if I'm understanding you wrong, but if you're having problems with now two separate ISPs (cable and DSL), could it be on the user-end? If you're using a router, try plugging the ethernet line right into your PC and seeing if you still get shitty speeds.

i'm getting the speed the install tech found from the box downstairs
i have a router but i'm not using it for the purposes of troubleshooting
in the case of the cable, modem and cables were changed by the tech with no effect
if you're wondering about my PC, it was a clean install and have since done another clean install, also not affecting the issue.

i accessed one of my neighbor's unsecured wireless, also with the same cable ISP, and experienced the same intermittent drops. I'm pretty sure this is not user error.

any time i test the speed i always make sure nothing else is running, no downloads running whatsoever.

Now the DSL2+ is pretty much crapped out. I am getting 25 to 50% packet loss when pinging to the ISP. Can't load google or connect to messenger (yet somehow I was able to send an email with attachments). Traceroute shows a blockage at a certain point.

Disconnected the cat5 and reconnected the cable. Everything is normal there for the moment, but traceroute from the cable to the dsl isp also shows a blockage.

The DSL ISP says with good wiring I should see at least 6mbps, they seem a lot more willing to help which is encouraging as opposed to the cable that blames me.

Connection is back (well, 3.85/0.82)
I swapped the cat5 cable to switch from cable back to dsl, and the music I had streaming didn't even stutter or stop at all. I was surprised.. heh.
