Jesus Christ! I'll just assume a 2005 release, and IF it comes out in 2004 it will be a surprise for me. :(

Just a reminder to everyone that the official release date for DOOM 3 is "when it's done".
IMO this is good. It prevents games from being released before they are ready and prevents users from being unwitting beta-testers for a game that needs a 100MB patch days (hours) after release.
If you hear a release date from _anyone_ outside of id, then you should presume it to be false.
We need another 3rd party site to remind us of this? IMO the devolper is the only reliable source. Why would I beleive someone other than id (or <game deleoper name here>)? I am glad the game won't be out until it's ready. Too bad game devolpers can't seem to win either way. If the game is released when people want it, many b!tch that its not ready and needs to be fixed. If the devoloper waits until the game is ready and more polished, users b!tch about how the game is not released yet.

heh, hate to tell ya but that ain't a third party site, that is a .plan file from Todd Hollenshead. CEO id Software. Webdog just happens to be who is displaying the .plan file for us. :) minor note, but :D

I agree, games shouldn't come out before they're done...no matter how much I want doom 3! besides, I'll have Ninja Gaiden very shortly...

I don't want anyone to say anything about any new games...UNTIL THEY ARE RELEASED

That should be a new rule around here

If it will be done when its done then good, i would rather see better gameplay and graphics than a game that is rushed.

I just got a EGM that shows D3 for the Xbox too.. So I doubt it's the hardware holding it back...

See, I don't pay enough attention to these things, I had no idea. However, my statement still works in most other cases where someone heard from someone's friend's brother's dog that game X will be out on such and such day. When I see it in the store, I'll know its ready.

Honestly, why does anyone even pay attention to news about this game anymore? I swear, so many gamers are playing the perfect Charlie Brown to ID's Lucy when it comes to this game. Falling for the same crap over and over and over and over... You'd think people would catch on after a while...

Because of nostalgia for the original Doom, combined with the fact that Carmack has a reputation for putting out the best engines in the industry for shooters. This engine is most likely the one that the majority of first person shooters (that don't have their own in house engine) will use/license.

From what I see is that ID isn't realy doing anything wrong.

They say "It will be done when it will be done"

Everybody is like WTF? I want to give them money NOW! give me give me give me.

the say: 'Well, Like we said before we aren't sticking to any date and you'll know when it will be finished when we finish it, because well tell you. It will be done when it is done. With something like this it's realy hard to tell and we want to make a great game.'

Everybody says: haha Duke nukem forever ahah ahah ahah.

they say: '...'

Everybody says: It's vaporware, blah blah blah, ID's falling behind. blah blah, quake was great, but who cares nowadays.

Then they go! Ahah we will create a bunch of fan sites and talk about ID and Doom3 all day long because we have no life!

For months and months people set up rumor after rumor after rumor. Dishonest companies see a way to take money from gullable eager children by the pre-order scams.

then they go: 'We have a demo for a trade show. It's here to show that it's not vaporware and because lots of people are curious'

then they also say: 'Don't forget though that there is a lot of work needed to be done. So don't expect it out anytime soon'

Then people go, YA! Finally a demo, lets all download a video with trent reznor talking about ID. This means that Doom3 is comming out soon!!!!! Woopy. (time to place our advanced pre-order and buy that new Nvidia 5700 for playing DOOM 3, because it will be kick-ass.)

A few months later....

hey, ID said that they would release it soon!!!!

They said "no we didn't say that. It will be finished when it's finished, duh. Remember?"

Hey HL2 will kick Doom3's @ss WOOP WOOP. Id's dead id's screwed. What a bunch of a-holes.

Meanwhile HL2's release date come and goes and still no HL2.

Now guys are saying "You fell for ID's BS again. When will people stop being so stupid?"

I am saying "You fell for your OWN BS. ID never said that they were going to release anything on anydate ever."

Over and over again they said it may be finished buy this or that time. BUT REMEMBER IT'S NOT SET IN STONE OR ANYTHING. I will be done when it gets done.

The only reason it's a cleche' phrase is because ID has to repeat themselvers OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER again.

But people only hear what people want to hear. They hear April 15th, they assume that must be correct.

And now your pissed at ID, because you misconstrued a imaginary date set by people who have no part in creating the game in the first place?

id never did anything wrong or ever try to deceive anybody about the release date. They are a victom of their own fame, people make up what they want about id (symptom of celeberty worship?) and when it doesn't happen they get angry at id. It's stupid.

Personally I never gave Doom3 a second thought. I look forward to playing it, but I am not going to get pissed about it. Why should I care about id or what they do anyways? It doesn't make sense. My universe isn't going to collasp because I can't play it, there are plenty of other things to do.

Bonus points for using the word "misconstrued".

I'm looking forward to Doom 3, not because I think it'll be a great game but because the underlying engine will inevitably be used by insidiously creative developers like Raven and LucasArts to make some really killa games.

I use misconstrued all the time, no point in giving me bonus points for that.

Now if I spelled it correctly, now that's a friggin miracle.

Hopefully Doom3 will rock. I will probably buy it, after I upgrade my hardware for it. I have a (strong) feeling that there will be a short time before and after it's release were hardware costs for cpu's and vid cards aren't going to be that favorable for the average consumer.

I actually think the delay is a good thing in a way,we`ll have faster 3D gaming cards ,not to meantion faster processors etc,you can bet it`s going to be power hungry hardware wise.

I can wait that`s for sure, more time to save up for awesome hardware upgrades ;).
