Yeti101 have you ever tried overclocking a xp1600+?

most will very easily run on a 166mhz fsb (running at 2100+ speed) and do it 100% stable

also... from the majority of the post ive seen, most people dont get 2.7ghz from a 1.6ghz P4 (some do, but by far most dont)

I know this is off-topic (I feel weird saying that in a thread that was meant to start a flamewar). But isn't there a place where you can order chips based on their s-spec? That way you could request a sl68q stepping from a place.

rofl.... wasnt meant to be a flamewar, I have a athon 1.4, my next rig forsure is going to be a P4 though... I cant wait for it, im ording my GFX card tommarow 🙂

I was just curious, why 4/5 of the OC posts, were asking about OC AMD's
Yeti101, you are relatively correct in your assessment, but keep in mind that with the advent of the Northwood processors, this forum used to be filled with people asking how to O/C their 1.6A's. I guess most have figured it out by now.
Guess hes right =\

Ralph Nader calls the AMD cpu "unstable at any speed"... 100% stable at 166 fsb? You've had one too many pulls on the bong.

And Ralph Nader is an expert on CPUs? Heck, his word alone is enough for me to now have even greater confidense in AMD CPUs. Fanboys... *sigh*

<laugh> Look who's talking.

LOL! You've made a grand total of 15 posts and you come in here and think I'm a fanboy?

I'll have you know that I'm going to build a P4 1.8A rig in a few weeks. I was merely counteracting your overt (and ridiculously inaccurate) fanboyism.

Since when does the number of posts have anything to do with anything? If you want to look at post counts, you've had 940+ posts in a few short months, this would tell me you should put down the blunt, step away from the keyboard and join reality once in a while, it's a whole new world out there, and it's calling you.

From the way this sentence started, all it was missing was "so there" at the end. I've sure been told!

I was merely counteracting your overt (and ridiculously inaccurate) fanboyism.[/i]

Actually, if you had stepped away from the keyboard once in a while, you would likely have figured out that Nader is known for a famous quote about a 60's car (Corsair) in which he said "unsafe at any speed". It's a joke son, chill. I'm no more a fanboy than you are for replying, you proved it, so stop talking about it already, you're not providing cheese and crackers with the beverage you're serving.
If it was indeed inaccurate, explain to me why the Business and IT community (and ANY mission critical) don't use the AMD/VIA cartel? Hmm now, let me see... Could it be.... STABILITY!?!

ahahahahahaahahaha ..... so true bout the VIA/AMD thing 😉

ehh...I'm happy with my XP 1600+ @ XP 2100+ speeds and default voltage for $60; can't get much better then that. Like people have said many times before. Poor man's processor = Amd, Rich Man's Processor = P4, and well I'm poor 🙂.

BigJ2078; nothing wrong with owning AMD over Intel, you paid good money for it. I own 4 AMD systems and 3 Intel systems. The main problem with the AMD setups is stability. The 'lower end market' suffers from poor R&D, they rush things to the market consistently and it's the end user that suffers. The market gets flooded with crap, maybe one gem in all that, but everything AMD seems to get high ratings. Time to make the manufacturers (and reviewers) accountable for their actions. Flakey systems at any price are still flakey, fix it. What you have is too many review sites out there, so as to not rock the boat, thereby losing a few companies on the way (no companies, no test products) giving nothing but rosy reviews of everything they get, even if it's flawed.

The thread started with "So much AMD love?" and there is. AMD is a cult of personality now. Say anything bad about it, and the fanboys come out and hammer you.

Ask yourself this as you sit on a very tall horse, "Am I a priest in the AMD Cult of Personality?" and be honest...

So true, but god knows they can talk so much crap about how slow the P4s are, but wait, the P4s are faster right? 😉

A properly setup AMD rig is every bit as stable as properly setup Intel rig. And if you don't like VIA, you don't have to use their chipsets. NVIDIA makes excellent AMD chipsets.

And you're saying that if I started a thread bashing Intel (not saying that Yeti101 started this thread bashing AMD), that the Intel fanboys wouldn't come out in force, flamethrowers blazing (and that I wouldn't be putting in my 2 cents as well)? "Fanboyism" in general is a "cult of personality" as you put it, not just AMD. And I don't just dislike Inel fanboys, I don't like ANY fanboys, and I nearly always argue against them, whatever company/product they're evangelising for. Also, if AMD systems are so horribly unstable, why on earth would you buy FOUR of them?

Well do you know how many more AMD Zelots there are here, but after the northwoods released there have been less and less, but still they are still there and always right in there heads 😀 Ive admited to being wrong, will they, HELL NO 😀
