Oddly enough I've never come close to falling face first while using a shop vac nor have I ever needed to put a full sized shop vac in a vehicle to clean it. I can somewhat see the appeal but I'd rather have something small and reliable I can use across cars instead of something that seems like a gimicky feature.

I've seen the damage they can do so I get the appeal. But it just seems like it would be a better idea to get one of those small portable car vacuums so you can use it across various vehicles and in other places. Those strike me as more reliable, easier\cheaper to service\fix\replace than one integrated into a vehicle. Many of those can deal with liquids too. I also look at features like this and can't help but think about the articles out there about how cars are getting too expensive and people are needing 6-8 year loans for them

I don't think anyone would suggest throwing your shop vac in the trash but if you're not home and want immediate clean up this seems super handy.

Wish I had a small built in vac in my Jeep for cleaning up dust during long off road trips.

Just curious as I know nothing about minivan vacuums, but do they:

A) Use the vacuum already created by the engine and just add hoses/filters (something that adds next to nothing to the cost and only adds a few plastic parts to fail)?

Or

B) Add a whole new motor to create a vacuum (something that adds extra cost, weight, and is prone to fail)?

2. Not sure what current pricing is, but in '13 when this article was written, the vacuum was only available on the $45,000 Odyssey minivan configuration. You could save a ton of money by buying a cheaper van & buying a cheap 12V vacuum.
