What makes them great? Input lag? Other brands have very good input lag as well.

Lack of lag and lack of any unneeded processing on the inputs by default. Too many cheap TVs leave all sorts of "enhancement" on by default with no easy way to turn off whatever interpolation, dynamic contrast, etc. that they think will help the TV sell. There can be exceptions of course, but recently almost any Sony has these characteristics so you don't have to research on AV Forums beforehand.

My Hisense TV has very good input lag and I am able to turn off all the processing effects. Apparently LG TVs have very good input lag as well. My old Sharp Aquos had excellent input lag.

Are you sure that all Sony TVs are good for gaming? I still think it's a good idea to research input lag if you're buying a TV for gaming. There are databases out there. Sometimes you can't find your TV but you can get a good sense of the different brands.

My main issue with Sony is that you tend to pay a hefty premium when you can get a much cheaper TV with an identical or superior panel for less money.
