I have the opposite problem. Only one or two games a year interest me.

The only one of those I played was Borderlands 2. I liked the action RPG aspects, but did not like that it was first person. That is the big con for most of those games, and most new games.

I'm insane then.

The BattleTech RPGs, MechWarrior, MechCommander, Sim Farm, Fallout 1 & 2, Privateer, Lords of the Realm. I wish games were nearly as interesting now. Graphics have gotten better, but settings, story, and game play have not.

If you think Fallout 1 & 2 have better game play than Fallout 3 than you and I disagree fundamentally on games!

The range of interaction that 3d realtime movement, combat and exploration alone gives over an isometric turn based game is massive.

1 & 2 may have more in depth RPG systems, better writing, more options on followers etc.. but to say the game play is better when it is positively antique by comparison is definitely something I disagree on.

I don't consider Fallout 3 a true Fallout game. It may have been in the same universe but it wasn't even isometric.

I find first person games much less immersive. It seems I am in the minority there, as most everything is first person now.

we see the world in first person!

I don't want to be the character, I want to see them.

I only like first person for space type games such as Privateer. Star Citizen will be awesome. For now I am getting bored of D3 RoS, and will probably try out Wasteland 2.

Eh, it's not so much that games were better then so much as it was all new and exciting and more or less original and never seen before. There just isn't much original content these days. It's mostly about eye candy. I think we also thought games would be much further along in terms of non-linearity and paths making outcomes different than we are. While games have tried, they tend to fall flat and only be an illusion to an ultimate outcome...this is generally because more money is spent on pixels than story.

I tend not to like 3rd person games. I either like first person, isometric (overhead) or plain oldschool overhead RPG style.

You do realize that you can play Fallout 3 in third person, right? Not isometric, but third person, over the shoulder view.

I think had/have most of those games languishing in my Steam backlog for a while too.

I bought Tomb Raider for next to nothing on a whim, and it turned out being a really pleasant surprise.

Skyrim... Well, you really should just play it. You clearly like Fallout 3, so you'll enjoy Skyrim.

I still need to get around to finishing ME3. I played ME2 on X360, and I really wish Bioware would have included controller support on the PC ports of ME.

I've got some good stuff on backlog as well. And this time, I'm actually going to take advantage of it. Working on Broken Sword right now. I still need to finish Brothers, and the story DLC for Batman: AO. Then, I may focus on BL2, and/or Septerra Core or Arcanum. And that's without diving into my D&D collection.

By the time I work through a decent chunk of backlog, Witcher 3 Director's Cut (you know it'll happen) and all the hotness out now or soon will be dirt cheap.

The range of interaction that 3d realtime movement, combat and exploration alone gives over an isometric turn based game is massive.

That is the problem, there is almost no interaction in 3d games. When I see something all I can really do is walk around it or shoot at it. I can't think of any unique answers to the challenges given to me in the game, for the most part all I can do is one form of 'shoot it' or another.

Being able to walk around these worlds looks neat, ultimately 3d games are more flat and dead then the old isometric 2d games they replaced. They all end up feeling like dead mazes that are filled with mindless meat bags that just stand there absorbing bullets until they disappear so that all the bodies don't choke my graphics card. If the developer managed to make the AI do anything other then charge straight for you shooting then we consider it groundbreaking AI. Multiplayer is no better as most peoples idea of playing is to either hide and take potshots from across the map, or to run straight ahead killing as many as they can before respawning to do it again.

1 & 2 may have more in depth RPG systems, better writing, more options on followers etc.. but to say the game play is better when it is positively antique by comparison is definitely something I disagree on.
So, in other words all you really care about is eye bleeding graphics, all that 'gameplay' stuff is just too old school for you?

Honestly, if anyone has Skyrim in their backlog do yourself a favor and just start playing it. Then prepare to lose sleep, lose health, possibly your job and relationship, but at least you will always be the Dovahkiin.

I really have spent more time modding it than playing it lol.

I hear yah, the modding community for Skyrim is probably the best of its kind. I can't wait to see what the next Elder's Scrolls has in store for the PC community.

I'm bummed that we still don't have a controllable, flying dragon mount in Skyrim. I had that crap way back in Oblivion and it worked great. I refuse to replay Skyrim until I get my true dragon mount. :colbert:
