My bad.

1920 x 1080

Athlon II X4 640, 3000Mhz
DIABLOTEK PSU 550W
Radeon HD4670
6GB DDR3 1600
ASRock M3A770DE AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Mobo

The mobo is amd but after reading a little bit I'm pretty sure the 460 will work fine with it. Just can't sli.

at 1920x1080, you want to get a 1gb model for sure. just make sure its not an SE.

EDIT: that psu only has a max of 30 amps so your system with the gtx460 might be pushing your luck if you oc it.

Ahk ty. I've been noticing SE but I'm having trouble finding out what it is, what qualifies a gpu SE?

So the 768MB Cyclone wouldn't be a good choice?

MSI N460GTX -M2D1GD5/OC GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5

This one is 1GB and pretty much the same with clock speed and everything else.

What would happen if I tried to OC it and there wasn't enough available amps? Any permanent damage or would it just turn off?

Sorry I know I'm asking a bunch of questions. Ty for helping!

Try to get whatever you can for $100 or so. I love my MSI Cyclone 768mb. It overclocks to 950mhz on the core which is almost unheard of.

768mb is not enough vram for a few current games at 1920x1080 and some future games could easily surpass 768mb too. you could end up damaging components if you were to exceed the psus capabilities. you may want to consider a 6850 since uses about 50 watts less under load.

Yeah, I keep hearing about how well it OCs. I'm kind of iffy though if my PSU can handle it as I also have 4 fans inside my case (2 isn't on atm)

Gigabyte HD 6850

How about this one?

Pretty much got it down to 3 choices - the Gigabyte HD 6850, 768mb Cyclone, and the 1gb other Gtx 460.

edit: Just read your last post.. The 50 less watts is making me lean more towards the 6850 now.. Also, I always prefer AMD to Nivida/Intel. I can't ignore value for my money though.

You probably want to get one of the 1GB cards so you don't run out of frame buffer (768MB may not be enough at your resolution).

Over 30 amps is recommended to OC a 460? Do you have links to any info on this?

um an overclocked 460 can easily add another 75watts or more to its power usage. full system load with a really high clocked gtx460 can easily get near or exceed 30 amps total usage.

OP you should be able to get a 6850 for $150, and yes, it's probably a better card for you seeing as you're concerned about power consumption.

OP you might find this interesting:

http://forums.redflagdeals.com/best...870-177ar-961129/?prefixid=Comp9&daysprune=30

It's Canadian based, but it should give you an idea as to how much these cards cost.

As to which one to get, I would go with whatever is cheapest, personally. Just make sure it has a decent HSF.

Much appreciated.

I think I will go for the HD 6850.

Just wondering, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-353-_-Product

This 6850 uses PCI Express 2.1 x16. Will my mobo with 2.0 x16 support this? (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157176)

I recommend sticking with the GTX 460 768MB. Reviews show that it is almost as fast as the 1GB but sells less, espcially right now with rebates offered on many cards since it is being replaced by the slower GTX 550 Ti. See this review of both versions:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-460-gf104-fermi,2684.html

Keep in mind that FPS differences over 40 or 50 FPS won't be noticeable in game play or affect performance. You can go to this page for some hints and suggestions on finding good reviews and evaluating them:

I would choose the EVGA GTX 460 768MB at $140 AR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-562-_-Product

Note that they had a similar EVGA card on sale AR for only $110. You might try a wait and watch strategy to see if other bargains turn up, if you are not in a big hurry.

again 768mb is NOT enough at 1920x1080 in some games to run settings a gtx460 is otherwise capable of.

Here's a little help : GTX 460 is NOT at a price point that nVidia can handle, thus you can have an AMD board that's faster for the same price.

Other tip : the two mobo's i bought from MSI both died under a year without overclocking.

Last one : Gigabyte > all --> it's cheap, good quality, good OC capabilities, and quite often some added thingies to sweeten the deal, like cooler operation and the usual high K japanese blabla stuff.

Which games? I haven't found any, so long as I don't go overboard with the AA.
GTA 4, Clear Sky, Metro 2033, Crysis and Warhead with mods, Fallout 3 with mods. those are with no AA to 4xAA. there a few others if using more than 4x AA.

950 isn't unheard of, though that is higher than most. Mine got to 905 without breaking a sweat, but I was afraid to push it any higher b/c it runs DC 24/7.

you definitely want either the 6850 or 460 1gb. based upon your post I'd go with the 6850.
