Ok I'm building a new comp only thing I'm unsure about is the moniter. I'm using a older gateway 17" model right now and wanted to get a 19" (my new system will have a Geforce 2 vid card). I only have about $300 or less to spend (that includes shipping if necessary). I've seen some deals at tiger direct on 19", heard some stories about KDS and Samsung models that are cheap and good but still am wary. Right now I think I'm going to get a Samsung 950P for $230ish plus $40 shipping. Does anyone know of good value 19"ers? Would you suggest a higher quality 17" instead of a mediocre 19"? All input is greatly appreciated.

ps: my whole system is listed in the thread:

Truthfully I would go for the refurbished ibm from tigerdirect. It's a nice trinitron monitor, and it's well much cheaper than new ones and it comes with a 1 year warranty. look on the hot deals forum if it's still there.

The PF790 has a .25 to .27 mm dp at the edges, not that clear.

I would reccomend purchasing an Sony G400 right now, at Ubid.com its at 201 dollars, with shipping, 281 out the door. I purchased an E400 Sunday for 270 dollars out the door from Ubid. Haven't got it in yet tho. Both come with 90 day Sony warranty, they are refurbs.

2 years ago i purchased a 17 inch Trinitron tube IBM P70 for about the same price shipped. NO complaints. They are also selling a 21 inch G500 for about 380 shipped refurbed. Good luck

I've got a Samsung 900NF and a friend of mine has a Viewsonic PF790. Both are kick @$$ monitors. You couldn't go wrong with either of them. I think the Samsung is a bit cheaper though, could be wrong.

You should try UBid.com, I just bought a Sony E400 Refurbished 19" monitor for a friend, I got if for $220.00 + shipping. A monitor is a componant that will most likely last you throught several computer upgrades, that is why it should be the one thign that you don't skimp on. I would definately spend a little extra money on a really good monitor that will last you a long time. I just recently bought all new monitors for all of my systems. I bought 1 Sony E400 19", 1 Sony G400 19" and 1 Sony G500 21" Trinitron flat screen monitor, can you tell that I like Sony monitors? You can find some very good deals on refurbished monitors at UBid. I wish that I knew about UBid before I bought my 3 new ony Monitors, i bought all of my Sony's from MWave. If you are interested, I have a KDS 17" Avitron model#:AV-7TF for sale, it is brand new, I bought it and only used it for 3 hours, it is a flat screen trinitron monitor. LMK if you are interested. I am selling it fr $200 + shipping or pick up in the Chicagoland area.

thats right, Ubid makes profit on shipping. They charged me 9.99 flat plus .99 cents per pound. My monitor E400 is 69 lbs. So thats80 bucks. But the monitor was 195 so i paid a total of 275 bucks shipped. Knock on wood, purchasing refurbs has not been problematic for me, so i'm comfortable doing it if i can save a couple hundred dollars. If you like the Viewsonic PF790, they have those as well for very cheap. good luck.
