Just found out that the biggest gun show on the East Coast is going to be here at the Dulles Expo Center on October 8-10. If you're around the area, they should hopefully have "post ban" AKs available.....

I've done a lot of looking for what I want, and was told to go to the show to find it.... and cheap....

A cheap Yugo SKS for much less than $150 each.....

I'm actually looking for a Dragunov now, and found out that a "AK-style" is very cheap. about $600 difference.

Update: Leaving for the show tomorrow at 7am. Driving up there with a "friend". hoping to pick up 2-3 rifles in the 150 to 300 range as a "starter" collection.

Update: <at the end> got a sks, blah blah..

Tell me about it.

The PSL/Romak 3 (usually advertised as a Dragunov) is supposed to be good for the money.

In California, all that stuff is still illegal. Damned communist jackasses. The laws can't tell the difference between a target rifle and an assault rifle anyways.

I have a Rock River M4 on my list now. Maybe next month since I treated myself to the RR EOP Varmint last month.

They have a lot of stuff..... sorry, no link to Dulles Expo Center, this is secondhand info from the TriCitiesMustang club.

AK clones are legal in MD. We have a 20-rd limit on mag capacity. That's about it. 20-rd AK mags can be had for $5/ea.

And the Romak 3 is no Drag. The Dragunov has a milled rcvr and a short action, and will set you back $3-5K - the Romak is basically a stretched AK. I still want one, though.

I've ripped out a few hundred rounds through my grandfather's SKS. That was fun. :)

I have a "no ban" M4 on my list. I have the stripped lower receiver. Just waiting for the money to save up. Sucks that NY has it's own ban. I'll be keeping it at my parents in PA. Idiotic politicians pass stupid laws just so it looks like they're doing something for all the money they get.

i have a chinese SKS that i'm going to be selling soon. i'm not a fan of how the mags lock in. i should be buying a Springfield M1A as soon as i decide exactly what i want and how much i'm willing to spend.

I'll agree with you on that .. the mags locking mechanism sucks. Kind of a pain to get them to snap in.

BTW, I don't think there is a pre/post ban SKS. AFAIK, they didn't have many of the features. Only a removable magazine and a bayonet lug. That's 2 .. so it's clear. The only thing you couldn't get were the hi-cap mags.

When you have the AK if you strafe back and forth you're harder to hit.

It's funny to me that they hold a gun show around DC.

That's a pretty long drive for me, otherwise I'd be there.

Heck, I might still go.

Before too long I'm going to be looking for a new subcompact carry gun, I want to get my hands on a Kahr PM9 or PM40 & a Rohrbaugh R9 (link). The Kahr should be easy to find, but the rohrbaugh is a little on the rare side.

SKS's were never meant to use detachable mags. You CAN use them, but with the adverse effects you described. :p

Ahem ;)

Model D or M: It's commonly believed the "D" stands for detachable or "M" for magazine, as in detachable AK-47 magazine. These are sometimes referred to as "Sportsters", more on that in the Sportster section below. These came in a variety of different stocks, some better than others. Some include Monte Carlo, Thumbhole, and piece of scrap 2x4 lumber. The technique for converting a fixed magazine SKS to a magazine fed SKS was perfected by Midwest Ordinance. They invited representatives from China Jin An to the US to learn the process and before long, they started making the D model in China. The Thumbhole pictured right looks better in this picture than they look in real life. I think someone carved away the back part of the thumbhole section to make for a smoother, more graceful look. Most simply have a roundish hole with hard edges.

You can find these around, you just have to look.
