I say the worst part is the 20,000 people that work in the Charlotte area for Wachovia. If they go that would have a serious impact on the economy in the area.

Citibank Center? I remember when MCI Center was renamed to Verizon Center in Chinatown...no one batted an eye about that.

Have you seen the building? It's HUGE. There's also a lot of stonework with the Wachovia name on it that would be a royal PITA to replace. I dread to think of how that would affect foot traffic... I go that way pretty much every day and it would suck.

That was the worst part of the Wachovia/First Union merger. :( FU Center > Wachovia Center.

It will always be the FU Center to us. If I win powerball I'm buying the naming rights and calling it that.

Ummm, are you talking about the same place we are? In Philly where the Flyers and Sixers play? I'm there all the time and it's not that bad. Hell, like mugs said...we've already done it once.

Oh no I'm not talking about the same building.

I was talking about the big Wachovia building on Broad Street near City Hall... it takes up a full square block and it's pretty big. But yeah, now that I'm not confused... it will always be the FU Center to me too. :p

My fiance's dad is a project manager in the fraud/money laundering department at the Wachovia headquarters in Charlotte. Needless to say, he said that it was pretty hectic there today :(

He doesn't know how safe he will be and he said that his boss has been acting pretty aloof for the past few days.

Hmm, there's already a Citigroup Center in Midtown in NYC... used to work in that building.

Excuse my ignorance, but what does this mean for us Wachovia account holders? Is anything significant going to change? Will all my local branches/ATM machines remain?

No one really knows but I would say yes at least for the time being. I wouldn't rush out and get another bank this morning.

you guys will have to change soon.... bascially, Wachovia Corp, gave/sold all the banking stuff to Citi.
Wachovia kept only the securities.

I don't think this will happen overnight. When WAMU took over Providian years ago nothing changed. Even the website is the same. And even now that WAMU is no more the website is basically the same for providian. Weird, you would think they would at least get rid of a name that hasnt been around in years (providian).
