So lets take bets.. PS2 HD comes out in March, how long before hackers crack it and pirate games?

Hackers/Crackers can crack anything. I am thinking they will figure it out within the month of it being released.

Or, 2 weeks before it hits the market.

Never. The PS2 BIOS doesn't (At least currently) talk to HDs. At all. Games have to be specifically coded to talk to it. The Linux distros require a boot CD to start.

Therefore you create a boot CD that you can use to launch ISOs from the drive. Simple.

They probably already have a way around it. The Linux package has been out for a while now, and I'm sure the interface is very similar, if not the same.

after all these years of hackers and crackers tearing up every single thing that has been released how the hell can you make a statement like that?

Because to the PS2 the HD may as well be a HD attached to the USB port on the front. It's a different beast than the Xbox, which has a lot of BIOS-based infrastructure to talk to the HD.
